The new year is here, time to look ahead at some new albums that should be released this year.

I'm looking forward to the following:

Bauhaus - TBA
Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit (February 6 in UK)
Bloc Party - TBA
Broken Social Scene - TBA
Happy Mondays - TBA
Hot Hot Heat - TBA
Mission Of Burma - Aluminum Washcloth (Spring)
Morrissey - Ringleader Of The Tormentors (March 21)
Pixies - TBA
Primal Scream - TBA (May)
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops (April 18)
Stereolab - TBA
The Charlatans - TBA
The Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics (April 4)
The Rapture - TBA
Vitalic - OK Cowboy (US release - February 21)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Coco Beware (March)

I'm especially excited about the new Morrissey album (and subsequent tour) as well as Primal Scream's new one (which has been delayed for quite some time) though it will be a "raw rock record" (Source) which disappoints be somewhat as I was looking forward to another electronica/techno-ish outing as heard in XTRMNTR, but it's 'Scream - I probably won't be disappointed. And a new Pixies album, fifteen years after Trompe Le Monde?

This looks to be a very promising year and I'm sure there will be some new indie bands popping out of nowhere as well as plenty of other great albums to be announced as the year goes by.

Any albums that you're looking forward to? Thoughts?

Wow ... some more stuff to add to the list of things I don't know ...

The Happy Mondays recording again? ... I'm surprised Sean Ryder and the gang survived the drug-fuelled 90's.

Bauhaus recording again? ... Love and Rockets devolving to Bauhaus. Maybe there'll be a new Tones on Tales release in 2007?

I'll have to keep my eyes open for these - thanks for the heads-up.

Quite surprising considering their rocky past. I wonder how long this "re-union" will last...?

For anyone interested here is a good brief overview of the 'Mondays and their career to date.

Radiohead has been delaying their new album for awhile, so hopefully we see an album from them.

Also, what makes you think that Broken Social Scene will be putting out another album in 2006? They went almost 3 years between You Forgot it in People and S/T.

They have a new album ready to be released - check this list.

I'm guessing they worked on more than just one album in those years...

The Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever People Say I Am, That’s what I'm not" will finally be released, and Cat Power's "Greatest" is coming up.

I've heard both, and both are good. :D

Arctic Monkeys and the new Bloc Party album are getting me excited! I'm also looking forward to a new release from Hot Hot Heat, which will be good. (Well, I hope!).

As another has already mentioned, Cat Power - The Greatest. I have not heard it yet (although one can find it online). It is nice to know that is good though ;) I just can't wait until the album comes out late this month.

Shucks, I thought I was going to be the first to say the Chili Peppers... Oh well, they're the top of my list. Bloc Party is right up there too.

This could be a great year. The 22-20s and the Music hae been working on new albums, so they are possibles, while I gather that Portishead and Massive Attack have new releases scheduled.

Could the new 'Scream album be the first that really makes proper use of Mani in the studio? A new Give Out but Don't Give Up, or Screamadelica?

I don't believe that Brownie's album will be out this year. He's a lazy chap and it's far from ready.....
