Firewire Daisychaining the iPod

Firewire goes out to a 300gig Maxtor External Hard-Drive.
It has Daisychain. (ie a firewire point out from the drive) to my ipd or dock.

-> BUT i can't get a connection. It will 'charge' the ipod, but won't connect so to speak.

Any ideas? Will daisychaining not work with an ipod - ie does it require a dedicated firewire connection?

Cheers.

I successfully daisychain my iPod (3G) off my Maxtor 250gb One Touch external firewire drive. It's running off a SB Audigy which is problematic for many but I've not experienced any issues with mine. Good luck to you.

I had issues with daisychaining as well. Off of a firewire chasis it will charge and will connect, but disconnecting takes time, sometimes I have to shutdown.

It was a pain so I stopped daisychaining altogether.

I had mine daisychained through my maxtor external and I could get it to sync with no problem but not charge.

I didn't do anything special for it to work. Like someone else mentioned when I had the One Touch Backup installed it seemed slow to disconnect. Since I don't use that software I uninstalled it and it does seem faster being recognized and disconnecting.
