Then use its built-in display for this. You aren't going to find the answer you want here as Handbrake is really the best, free encoding software for both OS X and Windows. You either have the option to buy something worse or use make a scenario allowing you to use Handbrake. The resolution you listed for your TV is still low. 720p models are at least 1280X720 but many can accept 1366X768. You should use 1080p (1920X1080) if your TV supports it. The drawback is that many TVs limit the resolution they will work with through VGA. For example, I have a 1080p 50" LED Samsung TV with three HDMI inputs and one VGA. It can accept only up to 1366X768 through VGA yet full 1920X1080 through HDMI.
Either way, you need to find a way to get Handbrake up and running as it is your best option. Videora, E-zsoft, Xilisoft, PQDVD, WinXDVD, Cucusoft, and all others either cost money to full unlock them, don't have the same encoding quality as Handbrake, and/or don't have all of the same features (likely all of the above).
