Thumbs up Sync Problems.... SOLVED!!

Thanks SO MUCH for this tutoral, and guides!!

I had so much problem with the video/audio sync, I TRIED EVERY bitrate combinations with no help.

But this:

"Tip: If your video/audio is out of sync,
try typing "-async 1" into the custom FFMPEG section on the setup screen. (Bodacious)"

DID IT!!!!

Now I can use these settings:

16:9 video (iPod use, higher quality): Best used for content which is described as Widescreen, 16:9, Anamorphic Widescreen, 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen, Letterbox Widescreen
320x180 (iPod size)
MPEG-4 > A-VBR
Two Pass
Bitrate=900kbps
Min=128
Max=2500
Framerate=29.97
Audio bitrate=160kbps
Stereo
Sample rate=input

and the video/audio works perfect....

(Still on a Pentiun III running Win XP Pro)

Well, I've gone through this whole thread looking for answers, and I still can't do it.

My settings are correct, I've put the "-async 1" in the custom FFMPEG section... I don't know what's going on.

I'm trying to convert a downloaded Family Guy episode (I have to use the MPEG / Downloaded Video profile, it won't let me change it). It's been about 5 tries now, and I still can't hit it.

If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

i have a problem.. i just bought a av cable and was anxious to try it out.. what i saw was a picture that was cut at both sides, so basicly i was disappointed. i got my settings here i used widescreen high quality.. so now i got on the net and went here again to find a nice setting for tv out. my problem here is in my videora there is no 552x414 setting. its version is 0.91. any suggestions what i can use to convert it to a nice tv out quality?

Flatline, firstly your image may or may not have had borders at both sides when put on the TV because if it is a widescreen tv and has its aspect ratio set to "auto" it will likely confuse the ipod signal, even if it's a widescreen video, as a 4:3 ratio signal. This will result in it using this mode to display the picture and so will display borders on either side. Use your remote or whatever it is for your tv to manually put it into 16:9 ratio or widescreen or whatever similar option is used for your TV. This sounds like it's your problem but if that still doesn't work then we have a dilema!

On Videora you can choose whatever resolution you want. At the drop down menu for resolution just click in the box and then type in your desired resolution in the same format as the default resolution ie. type 552x414. Hope that helps.

Morbid. What exactly is your problem? Will it not convert at all? When it converts is the resulting video faulty? What is the filetype of the original downloaded episode? There are some filetypes that Videora isn't able to work with.

thanks for replying,

my videos dont show borders when i watch them on tv (in any tv in that case). when i force the tv to 16:9 ratio it still doesnt display the whole video. its like the video was cut from both sides (around 4 inches i think). dunno why?

that is my second problem in the latest video there is no 552x414 ratio. help?

I imagine then that if the video plays properly on your iPod and computer without cutting off each side but it cuts off the sides when displayed on the television then it is a quirk with the television. I've found that different televisions have different modes for widescreen. Some might allow you to choose between several, others will just have the one. I sounds like your television is in a "zoom" mode wherein it basically will just, as the name implies, zoom in on the centre of the image to fill the widescreen tv up with the image, the results of which is the picture is often cut on all sides. If your television can change its viewing mode then cycle through the widescreen modes to see which one works best.

When you say there is no 552x414 do you mean in the videora settings? In the resulting video? If it's the former then as i said before even though videora has preset resolutions for encoding if you click the box the resolution is displayed in on the profiles menu in the settings you can type in your own resolutions to be encoded. Make sure when you change your profile that you press "Apply" to save the changes, otherwise they do not take effect.

1.85:1

Hey everybody. This thread has been very helpful. Thank you all very much. Quick question...I just tried to do my first conversion using dvddecryptor and videora.

I used the listed settings for 16:9 video (ipod use higher quality) on OFFICE SPACE. Used the 320x180. Seemed to work great, no sync problems, but the aspect ratio looked off. The movie looked squished from top to bottom. Is this because it's 1.85, and not 16:9? I'm not really sure what to think since this was my first attempt. Maybe Office space has some different ratio? The widescreen bars took up almost half of the ipod screen.

On a side note, i'm mad that i bought dvdxsoft for 30 bucks before i did my research and found videora. That other program never worked no matter what settings i used. I tried Videora and except for the minor problem listed above, it worked PERFECTLY!!! And it's free!

thanks in advance.

The 16:9 and 1.85:1 ratios are practically one and the same so that shouldn't be the issue. It seems likely that I mightn't know enough to properly help you here. I'm assuming you were using the settings for 16:9 in the first post of this thread. If not try one of those. I found when I was working out the different profiles for 4:3, 16:9 and 2.35:1 that the 2.35:1 profile wouldn't work right no matter what. Specifically, the cropping of the top and bottom of the video by 66 pixels (if i remember the number correctly) was just not working like it should. It was producing a video which was quite horrifically stretched no matter what I did. I gave up and when I came back to it a few days later to try again it was working just like it should without changing any of the settings. It seemed the computer/videora was acting up originally. Mightn't be the case with yours but you never know, thought I should explore any options!

As a general note you should grab a different 16:9 DVD you have and (assuming you have the time to kill) see if encoding it using the same profile you used for Office Space produces similar flawed results. If you have time to do that let me know if it works or not. But in general let me know if it still doesn't work and I'll do my best to help...if I can

Office Space

Strange. I just did the first chapter and did it in 4:3 profile and it looked normal with smaller bars on the bottom and top. Hmm. This is only the second movie i've done, i think i'll test out the first chapter before i do a 2 pass encoding on a full movie till i get the hang of this.

The box says it's 1.85:1. But it only comes out normal encoded in 4:3.

Thanks for the help bodacious.

No audio

Hello all, I just got my 30 GB video iPod last night. So I'm new at all of this. In preperation of getting my iPod, I have been trying to convert Chronicles of Narnia to MPEG-4 using the DVD ripper and Videora. I have tried about 6 different settings, and in all of them, I couldn't get any audio what so ever. I did one small chapter about 4 minutes, and got perfect audio on that, but not on the whole movie, which is 2 hours 15 minutes. If somebody can help, it would be very helpful.

If by 'work' you mean 'would it play back on a standard PC MPEG-4 decoder' (ie Quicktime, VLC, WMP), then the answer is yes.

But if you mean 'will it play back on the iPod', the answer is no. The current maximum MPEG-4 settings are 640 horizontal resolution, 480 vertical resolution and 2500 Kbps bitrate. That's what you have to play with.

Wrong. It WILL play on the iPod. 720x304 (2.35:1) and 720x400 (16:9) MPEG-4 video files have been tried, tested and proven to work on my 5.5G iPod.

However, H.264 files are limited to 640x***.

Joshua.
