The review here, about the read speeds, was very disappointing. I'd like personal testimonies to the Shuffle's read speed, and whether or not I should stick with the Cruzer Titanium as a Flash drive.

Additionally, can you have a playlist-based importing method rather than the "auto-fill" method provided as the standard?

as to your other question, i'm not sure what you mean. you can have the shuffle autoload from your library, or from a specific playlist. you can also manage the songs yourself. drag and drop the songs, albums, or artists you want onto it.

Wow, thanks for the benchmark... which of the listed items was the Shuffle?

And what I meant by the question (which you just answered) is if you could use playlists to load stuff. Thanks.

the shuffle is the current drive (in green on the graph, H: at the top). you can see the sandisk cruzer is the red (showing the results that sisoft sandra has on file, not anything i benchmarked). all the results in the text are from the shuffle, just showing the speeds with different files sizes and the results of the other tests.

as you can see, it varys a lot with the file size. i would think if you're comparing to a companies quote, they would use the best number. for the shuffle thats 3.4MB/s read and 2.1MB/s write (which i see is about the same as in the review you posted).

if you checked out anythingusb's review of the cruzer titanium, you can see it will be much quicker than the shuffle (the shuffles fastest are 19x read and 12x write, the cruzers are all 88x read and 55x write)

I'm stuck at a dead end, it seems. But as I already have an iPod, and would like speed and durability in my Flash drive, I'll stick with the Titanium. Thanks for your help!

EDIT: Actually, it depends... I'm used to the cruzer mini's speed, and according to a cnet review, it took 6 minutes to get 400MB. This is 1.1 mb/s, correct?

Take a look at this. The mini is faster... wait, does the computer's speed have anything to do with the drive's speed?

And the differences... will they be noticeable?

i dont think the computer should significantly effect the benchmark, but it could. i think the mini will be noticeably faster than the shuffle. what type and size of files do you normally transfer? i can give you an approximate real-world time.

Well, it'll be mostly .docs. But some audio files, as well as web dev files, like .psd's and the such will be coming on as well. But most commonly the .docs.

I don't see why this is a problem. It's more than just normal in my opinion that the Shuffle isn't as fast as other dedicated flashdrives. It wasn't designed to be very fast since it is a player... it's just supposed to be fast enough to play mp3's and load them in a reasonable amount of time. And as everyone is different so our ideal products are different too. And I always say that if "it ain't broke don't fix it". If the cruzer satifsfies you stick with it. That way you won't be dissapointed. :)
