I like the way you used the dock, ever other car install Ive seen uses like a phone holder with the firewire cable pluged in. The dock looks a lot better!
Id try something similar.. if i had a car lol.

are you worried about the ipod falling out of the dock when you go over bumps?

do you use the front controls or a remote to control the ipod?

I was also wondering how well this worked with the dock, and whether or not it casued strain on the dock-->iPod connector.

How exactly is the dock being held on the dash?

Thanks for all the nice comments.

As for the install when you split open the dock there is that puter weight that give the dock stability when its on your desktop. All we did was remove that and screwed the dock to a piece of 1/4" ABS plastic. Then mounted the other side of the ABS to the pocket where you see the dock sitting. When you put your iPod in the dock it has alittle play ( you can move it back and forward.) Well all we did was measure it so that the dock was alittle too far into the pocket and the iPod rests against the dash.

Try this. Put you Pod in the dock and then slide the dock back against a solid surface. you will get a feel for exactly how solid the mount is.
. .................... __| <---Solid surface
. ................... / / |
.................... / /
............. .. __/ /__
Push ---> |_______|

Sry bout that crappy drawing but you get an idea of what i'm talking about.

The other cool thing about it rather than a Phone holder and charger is that I have a charger and RCA's connected to the dock.
So as soon as I drop the Pod into the dock it starts charging and automaticaly plays on the head units AUX input.

Just let me know if you have any more questions.

Tommy

http://members.sounddomain.com/tommyp
go stright to page 4 if you've already seen the rest.

tmoney sorry to skip your question. Where it is mounted is exactly an arms lenght from where I sit (I'm 6'3" tall . This is why I wanted to mount it there so bad is cuz I have to use a remote for the head unit, but not the iPod.

Thanks again
Tommy

Tommy,
I'm moving this into the iPod-in-Car Solutions as it really belongs there
