Thanks for the review. Thats exactly the kind of reassurnace i was looking for before i bought one of these cases. I made a thread because i was going to get the Contour showcase, or this Pacific Rim one. I take mine with me all the time, and I'm usually outside. I didnt want some flimsy case where as soon as i drop it the plastic breaks. The aluminum case was a big plus for me. I'm ordering a black one right now. Just some questions since I'm impatient.
How does the belt clip work? Easy access to dock it? Was shipping fast?
theres a small round peg that sticks out the back of the case... included with the case is a black clip that locks to that metal peg and allows the case to clip to your belt, it allows it to swivel. I dont wear my ipod on my belt i dont use this piece. its a sturdy removable clip.
the ideal 'belt clip' for me would have been to make a single piece of metal that can attach to that peg to allow for a non swiveling clip, sort of like the belt clip on a tape measurer... just a simple peice of metal that you can clip on there or clip off, i guess for me i just dont like the swivel part, but i think many others would prefer it to swivel...
shipping was very fast it got here in less than a week... (NJ)
as for the sync, you can cable sync with the case ON. you wont be able to dock it on the dock stand, but they both do the same exact thing.
the metal case fits so close around the ipod and is lined with a thin rubber, if you use any sort of FM modulator that has to plug flat ontop of the ipod im not sure that it would work. (itrip) however, if your like me, and just plug headphones and use the tape deck adapter for your car you shouldnt have any trouble with top port compatability. theres pleanty of room around the jack and the remote port on the top. I used to use the LOCK switch all the time but with this case theres not much of a need to because all the controls are so well protected....
I ordered two iShieldII's for myself and my son on December 20th. They sent one iShield, the chrome one, different model, not the same at all. I called, they assured me they would send the two I ordered out immediately, that was January 4th or 5th. Nothing as of today, they don't respond to my long distance calls, they don't respond to my e-mails. This is really getting irritating. My advice is to order from elsewhere, anywhere, from another planet, not from PacRim. I have a feeling I'm out some bucks and have a really silly iPod case to prove it. They're customer service sucks.
thats funny, because both emails i sent to the company we're returned within 24 hours with reply. the order went so smooth i didnt need to speak to anyone over the phone.
well, good luck
Kevin
Hmm...not a very reasuring feeling. I got 2 emails from them. 1 confirming my order, and another to let me know that my case was shipped yesterday. Hopefully i should get it saturday, but most likely monday. I'm bummed right now. My right audio channel died on my iPod :-( I have to ship it to HP tomarrow.
Right channel, uh boyy. I'm hoping things will still turn out right with my order. I'll let you know the outcome. Good luck with your right channel dude.
hey the ishield looks cool.
Does anyone know where I can get this in Canada. Or a site that ships to Canada. I want to avoid crazy taxes and duties.
Good luck. I had to choose a 10$ shipping fee for Connecticut and it was the cheapest option. It ended up as a 47$ total for me. Not happy about that, but i'm holding out that its worth it.
This was one of several cases on my shopping list. Then I read the review which showed there were three main bones of contention.
1) Opening and closing the case was a little difficult
2) If you're a 20G owner the shims that are supplied with iShield do not take up the slack resulting in your poor 20G iPod knocking about.
3) The swivel belt clip pin on the back of the case affords too much movement and is not recommend for active sports, gym work-outs or any sustained or sudden changes of direction by the wearer.
Got my iShield from PacRim today. I'm glad i didnt experience any shipping problems. Unforunatley i recieved it after i got home from sending my iPod out to HP :-(
Well after 6 months of faithfull service my ishield was put to the test.. i took my seatbelt off at work, my ipod sits on the floor plugged into a jack, my seatbelt harness fell off the seat edge directly onto the screen cover of the ishield. This harness probably weighs a good pound to pound and a half... and it fell about a foot.
the thin plastic PAC rim uses was flexible and thankfully absorbed the shock, it shattered, but worked...cause my ipod made it out ok, without a scratch...
now to fix the ishield... I carefully cut the screen out from behind the rubber backing inside the case... found a peice of lexan and cut it to fit the opening, then epoxied it into place. so the pac rim ishield went from heavy to heavier! but the new screen protector is nearly bullet proof...
this case after 6 months of use looks like its been through a war zone, it even has a dent to go along with the many scratches. My ipod still looks like new when i take it out of the case, not even rub marks...
just wanted to post this experiance for anyone out there using their ipod under demanding conditions....
OMG, did the screen really shatter that easily? What iPod are you using??? Does it fit snug in the case??
the harness that landed on the screen protector of the case is just a hair smaller than a CD case, about twice as thick and weights about a pound, so it really got a good hit... the ipod made it out without a scratch. i still use the same case today but i put a lexan screen cover into the case to replace the stock one that broke.
Im using a 4th Gen 40Gig it fits like a glove. like i said, 7 months in this case it doenst even have any rub marks or blemishes from the case.

I was looking for a tough case that didnt need a lot of fooling around, ie taking it on and off, capable of syncing without removing the case, and keeping my ipod unscratched and protected was key..... so i bit the bullet and got one of these aluminum cases from pacrimtechnologies.com this thing fits my 4th gen 40 gig ipod better than A GLOVE!
crystal clear screen protector and its heavy duty... i dont wear my ipod around, i dont take it to the beach and i dont use it at the gym...so for those of you that are light duty, i dont know if this is a best fit BUT in my line of work i never go anywhere without my ipod and its a jungle out there. i actualy keep it with me upfront all the time and listen to it in the background through my work headsets... so between getting bounced around in the airplane (it sits where my headsets plug in on the cockpit floor), getting banged up going through airport security, knocked around in my luggage and sandwiched between heavy books in my flight case this was the perfect case for the job!
anyone else that uses their ipod in demanding environments may want to check out this guys site. i was highly impressed when i got it. i know i'll have this thing for a long time and i highly recommend it.
