Have you tried adjusting the gain of your MP3s using something like MP3Gain? They might be clipping slightly so that its only noticeable when you have the volume turned up.

A couple days ago I got the shure e2 earphones and have noticed that on hard metal songs, when the volume is cranked up, the music becomes distorted... I have the quality ripped at 320 kbs. Is this normal? Thanks in advance
