You may want to check out Auto Toys there website is a PITA but they have adapters that enable wiring of MP3 and MD players. I used a Blitzsafe adpater in my Audi and it works like a charm. You may want to check out some BMW forums for more information. Most of my DIY install info came from AudiWorld
Here are some photos of install:

Does your car have a cd changer connection in the trunk? I have a 2001 330i and there is something you can hook up to the cd changer cable and it will give you an aux input. Haven't done it yet, but seriously considering it.
What adapter do you use? I've discovered there are several manufacturers of adapters that allow you to use the cd changer connectors for an aux input. Prices seem to range $70-90. Would like to buy one that I know someone is satisfied with. Thanks
Read the original response I posted. Blitzsafe adapter...do a google search for Blitzsafe adapters and you will find all sorts of installs using this little device.
Thanks for your help. Ordered the Blitzsafe BMW aux adapter from Logjam on Weds afternoon and it arrived Fri morning via UPS ground! Took all of 5 minutes to install. Works great!
fwiw, it was posted here in the news section of ipodlounge, that blitzsafe is working on an ipod specific adapter.. hopes to be out sept/oct

My 525i has a CD player but no cassette deck. Haven't found an FM wireless that works satisfactorily. Anyone with a 525i been able to figure out how to add a stereo input connector? Thanks
