anyone have their new ipods lock up on them often? Thisi s the 3rd time my ipod locked up on me. I tried to turn it on this morning and it will not turn on. Need to do a hard reset of this thing. Gosh wish they made it more simple ot hard reset the ipod without hte sync cable.

My 30GB iPod has locked up several times when I try to synchronize my 20GB music library using MusicMatch. WindowsXP strains a bit and reports various virtual memory errors (I've got 1,024MB of RAM). Need to reboot PC and iPod.

I found that I have to delete my all iPod songs, then re-synchronize everything. Takes about 3 hours though.

it's not very convienent to have to wait till you get home to reset the ipod if yoou don't have a firewire cable with you on the go.

Second time for me in less than a month. The real surprise is that I am not doing anything other than playing music.

So am I to understand that the only way to reboot the thing is with it plugged into a power source? I'm going to have to remember to bring the cable and power adapter with me everywhere I go and hope it doesn't lock up in the car!

Not sure if this is what you mean when you say "reboot", but if you hold down the menu and play buttons together for appx. 10 seconds it should reboot (with all songs intact) without the power cord attached. I also have had a decent amount of lockups, but this always solved it easily in a few seconds.

Yea, that seems to work fine. I guess the manual tells us the other things to make sure that the keylock is turned off and it has power. I wonder if a reboot when the batteries are really low will cause the iPod to wipe itself out.

Oh well, anyway, thanks for pointing that out.
