I had that problem right from the start of owning my ipod. The apple earphones are very very poor, which is quite a shame considering they go so well with the ipod.
Sorry, I cant offer you any other solution then buying a new set of headphones (hence the amount of threads about headphones on these forums).
I had the same problem, but I manged to come up with a solution and have had no problems sence!
Take off the Foam covers (If you have them on) and blow really, really hard into the metal part of the earphone. Do this a few times. And I mean really hard.
And that should sort it out.
I used that Dust-Off air spray on mine until I got tired of doing that and got new earphones.........but it did work.
amazing. thanks for the advice, as blowing as hard as possible onto the metal part actually worked. at first, i heard the paper component of the earphone crackling on the inside, and it sounded weird, but after a couple of tries it worked.
thanks guys!

What does blowing really hard into the earphone accomplish though? I mean physically, how does that fix the crackling problem?
the crackling is actually the paper cone that makes up part of the speaker. if you alternatively blow and inhale against the earpiece, you will hear the paper crinkle. blowing hard probably just readjusts the paper and/or cleans any dirt that may have accumulated in their.
the other lounger's are right though, the earphones are of crappy quality and i will be ordering those Sony noise-cancelling ones as soon as I get paid next week.

No problem. It was my last resort though0 the stuff I tried before blowing into them! Not nice.
Anyway, I would be getting some Sony Ex-71's, but since I have to pay a loan back, I'm really screwed for moeny at the moment. I'll get some in a few months hopefully, though.
The cost of the noise cancelling earphones is made up mostly of the noise-cancelling part of it. The earphones themselves are really not much higher in quality than the standard apple ipod earphones.

hi everyone
my 30gig iPod's standard white earphones, the ones that come with the pod, have started acting funny. more precisely, the left earphone is crackling at a certain volume, and any louder than that.
i have tried obviously plugging and unplugging them. Did I blow the earphone out? let me know if anyone has heard of this problem and/or has a solution.
thanks
