I have a little problem with my iPod. I plug it in the PC, transfer files as i should, but when im going to remove the device, the iPod just blinks "do not desconect". When i discard it in windows, it just displays "not avaliable". I have just unplugged the pod, hoping it will be allright. How can i fix this. Anyone had the same problem?

Before you try to disconnect your iPod verify that it isn't in use by another program (like open folders or mp3 players accessing the device).

It isnt in use by any prog. It seems like its just hangig =/, can it be damaged by just unplugging it?

Here's the deal. First off, this can be caused by some anti-virus programs. Try disabling your anti-virus app and then clicking on the "safely remove hardware" icon. If that works, see your anti-virus manufactuer for a patch.

If it's not the anti-virus program, open up device manager and look for any processes that might be running such as disk management tools etc. These can also cause this problem.

I had the same problem.

The answer is tucked away in the manual in small print and is proabbly too obvious to anyone who uses and iPod but wasn't obvious to me for hours.

You have to eject your ipod fromth Musicmatch program. Leav eit for a minute or two and the ipOd will stop saying Do Not Disconnect and you can remove it.

I am not using MMJB =) I use Xplay...
Disabling the antivirus and firewall didnt work =(
What kind of programs are disk management tools btw?

You should always try to use the software (XPlay, MMJB...) to disconnect the iPod: Rightclick the XPlay icon in the taskbar and choose "Stop my IPod".

Disk management tools have the purpose to make changes to your harddisks like repartition your harddisks or defragment them for example.
Start->Run diskmgmt.msc - opens the Windows 2000/XP disk management utility. Partition Magic is another very popular disk management software.

The thing about anti-virus programs and disk management software is that they access your harddrives. And if your IPod is in use by any program, Windows won't be able to disconnect.


Have a look at your XPlay help: search the index for "Unplugging your iPod".

If it still doesn't work try to get the latest Xplay version from the internet. (I think v1.1 is the latest.)

I went in to my taskmanager and started to shut down prog afther prog in there. I found out that an aplication named somethink with "flash" was holding the ipod back. Ill type the full name in next time I have the problem.

I'm having a similar problem getting the ipod to stop displaying the 'Do not disconnect' warning. Found the offending program to be RUNME32.exe on the windows task manager. Funny thing is I ran a search against my HDD and can't locate the program. Must be XP and it's wonderful indexing service.

Any ideas as to what this is??
