New albums available 0:01 am (midnight)?

So, when there's a new album coming out, when do they put it online? At 0:01 am (midnight at release date) or later that day?

I'm just curious.

I've seen some come out around midnight and they are added through the early morning. There is no guarantee when new albums will appear on iTunes.

For the most part, Apple updates the iTunes Store to include new content (whether it be albums, music videos, movies, or TV shows) at around midnight EST. There are sometimes when the iTunes Store isn't updated until the following morning (at about 4:00 AM EST) and there are other times when new content is added before midnight. In fact, I remember downloading Korn's new album at 10:20 PM the day before it's release.

So, if you really wanted to, you should be able to find most new albums at midnight. I have yet to come across an album that wasn't released on the iTunes Store. In fact, there is a high likelihood that an artist will choose the iTunes Store as an exclusive form of online distribution.

As a follow up, I had preordered the new U2 album and I received an email at 9:45 p.m. saying that it was ready to download.
