The only thing I have heard is "begin shipping by the end of Sept." I have talked to a few stores and they seem to be in the dark about any type of date.

Thanks!

AlphaRob

"by September 28" is the response I got from some people at my store, and I asked again to another person and they said "probably sooner than that" and another person said "probably later." I don't think anyone knows for sure.

I also mentioned the 'shipped by 28th' and the guy at the apples store said that the date mentioned had nothing to do with when it'll be in store.

hyroboarder

yeah but normally when it ships on the online store means they have it in the b and m's that day or a few later. For all we know they might have them now and aren't allowed to sell them?

AlphaRob

That would upset me quite a bit since I very much want one ASAP. September 28th is already far enough, if it's any later I might as well order it online.

Amazon is showing the following for th 16GB version:

Availability: This item will be released on September 30, 2007. Pre-order now! Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.

No, there's no reason why Apple would already have started shipping them out to stores, yet online orders are not being fulfilled.

My guess is that they will probably be available well before the 28th, both online and at brick and mortar around the same time (give or take a couple days.) The 28th is probably a 'worst case scenario' date, but we'll see.

I hope so, I want to get my hands on immediately also. Although the release of them being later also gave me time to choose between the classic or the touch.

Ouch, I have a trip the end of the month... if they come out before then that would be great.

jeremy3721

I just ordered mine directly from apple and I'll just wait for the delivery guy.

Starvsnr

Who does Apple usually ship through? Do they leave packages on doorsteps? I'm not home to often...

Gunner

When you check out it tells you that a signature will be required. They also charge sales tax, so I cancelled my order with Apple and will be ordering through Amazon as they ship through Fedex/UPS and will leave the package for me (no signature required) and no sales tax.

yacoub

Local apple store says they won't even have demo models to play with in-store until the end of the month when the ones for purchase arrive.

Apple normally uses FedEx for international shipments, and either FedEx or UPS for in-country shipments (from a U.S.-based warehouse). If you pre-order, the shipment normally comes straight from the factory in China, so it will be FedEx.

As for availability, the usual case with pre-orders for Apple is to ship out the pre-orders as soon as the item becomes ready to ship. As a rule, the stock shipment for the stores and the end-user pre-orders leave China at approximately the same time. Apple does not traditionally pre-stock stores and then wait to ship online pre-orders.

Not sure what it'll be in the States but as of yesterday Future Shop Canada was listing the release date to be October 5th but just checked again today and now its listed as October 12. Prices in Canada appear to be $329 for the 8GB and $449 for the 16GB.
