We've given up Avatars until Tom comes back.


Or maybe it's that the site simply can't handle them at present, though there was rumor there was going to be a work around for this.

Avatars - One of the highest bandwidth hogs is avatars and how they are displayed using avatar.php. In one week, before we disabled them, the file avatar.php has had over 130,000 page views. Dennis is trying to find a hack that allows users to link offsite to their avatar.

Am I the only one who finds avatars to be incredibly annoying? Hopefully if they're enabled again, there will be an option to turn them off on a per-user basis, I know some boards allow that.

Ah, but what fun we had tracking down Calvin and Hobbes avatars - and the opportunity of doctoring them to include an iPod. I sometimes pop back into the old forum just to have a laugh at the avatars over there!!

Yeah, gotta agree with you there--do you know how much time I wasted on that??? Sure was fun though, even with the dastardly Sponge Bob Ipod theft thrown in.. Maybe someday we'll get them back, I do kinda miss my Calvinpod...

Just a quick afterthought: I looooooved Timmy Yak's swaying power ranger.

I'm only on day two of recovery from viewing your desktop in the other thread my friend....Room's totally dark, except for my computer screen, and it's going to take at least another 4 days before a semblance of sanity returns, and these post-apocalyptic images go away...


And Timmy, the only person wanting your Power Ranger on Testosterone back is Ginalee....And after she linked a site to that squiggle, her taste must be brought into question (Sorry Ginalee). On the other hand, Janfriend's Avatar at that site pretty much made my day, so I must thank her for that...
