What about the faulty battery meter for the 4G Photos, did they fix that yet?
I am not sure about the 4G, but the battery meter on the 5G is better than it was, but still needs work.
Progress might slow a tad over the next month. Rockbox is putting a feature freeze for four weeks. This is to allow them to get ready for the next release, 3.0. This release will include a bunch of new targets, like the iRiver H1xx and H3xx players. While Rockbox has been working on them for many months for the former and a few months for the latter, it has not yet reached official release status.
Before the official release the battery use issues have to be fixed for the H3xx player.
This will not stop iPod progress but it may slow it down a tad.

Besides doom added, there have been a couple of small steps....
4 Apr 00:55 Jens Grayscale iPods: Bit-flipped the 2bit LCD driver to use the same format as apple. No more mirrored display when loading retailos, after a bootloader update.
4 Apr 01:40 Jens Fix greyscale iPod sims for new LCD format.
While these are specific iPod updates, there are many others that will also improve Rockbox on iPod.

4 Apr 10:03 Thom Hopefully working battery display on Nanos.

Please for the love of God tell me that someone is working on adding folder.jpg support.
in case anyone cares, they fixed the backlight OFF problem [whenever you set it to off, it would stay on].
Big Problem while playing in class.
4 Apr 12:00 Dave iPod: Make the hold switch bring up the in-game menu.

How is the battery life on 4G's with Rockbox? And when will the second CPU be enabled.
Glad to hear that the LCD problems have been fixed though. If only the battery life is optimized I will switch over to Rockbox immediately.
Battery life optimisation will take a while, but it will happen.
h
Will it be possible to optimize the battery life to the point where it matches or exceeds the current 4G spec (~12 hours)?
Now that is a question for which I have no answer. I dont know how good the iPod guys are compared with the Rockbox guys. How close to optimal did the Apple guys get it? If they are close then it is unlikely that the Rockbox guys will beat them.
If the Apple guys are working under tight contraints that preclude them from spending enough time to get close to optimal then the Rockbox guys may well do better.
I use the term guys as a catch all. At least one of the Rockbox programmers is female.

Any news about HFS+ support?
Supporting Apple's primary filesystem would be a great thing.

I will post notes here on Rockbox progress so those who are interested can easily keep track of what is going on.
This will let people already using Rockbox, but not updating very often know when features they want are available so they can update. It will also let people who are waiting before upgrading to Rockbox know when it is mature enough for them.
So here goes.
The QuickMenu has been implemented for iPods on Rockbox. When music is playing and you hold the Menu button down a quick menu will pop up.
This allows quick easy changes of the following optinos...
<< will turn Shuffle on and off.
>> will cycle through the repeat modes: All, One, Shuffle, Off
>|| will cycle through file view modes. : All, Supported, Music, Playlists, ID3 Database
More information on the QuickMenu can be found here...

More general information on Rockbox can be found by clicking the yellow Rockbox logo in my sig.
