hmm, well, is it a 3rd generation ipod? if so, what size is it 10, 20 or 40gb
you can tell if its a 3rd generation by the fact that the face playe is rounded on the edges, has all touch sensitive buttons that glow red when the blue backlight is on

All ipods ever made work with both mac and pc. Just run the restore program on whatever OS you're on.
