That wouldn't be too far off the mark. Even on AppleInsider, it's written that someone in France said, "Many of us were considering at the end that this meeting was originally the occasion to introduce a new product, such as the iPhone or something else, but for an unknown reason postponed to another date." So maybe they are waiting to hit half a billion and then introuce the iPod phone. I don't think they'd put out the 5G since the "4.5"G just came out... Which is terrible since I've been waiting FOREVER for it.
I guess the 500 Million Mark would be the most perfect date to release the 5G and the iTunes 5.0....
Everything 5...
I don't think that it will be a 5g either. More likely the rumored iPhone. It just seemed that the rumors surrounding the event and the launch of the iPhone reached a peak and then never materialized. I don't think that there would be that much information circulating about it if a launch was not near.
At the current rate the Apple website is updating song purchases (roughly 10 songs per second), they will reach 500 million in 13.5 days. I wouldn't be surprised if it sped up though as it gets nearer.
My best guess would be somewhere between July 19 and 21st
Sorry, I don't mean serious consequences. It's just, people have been waiting a long time for this, and this is seems like the most highly anticipated release yet (judging by the posts on this forum), and people might be getting a little impatient.
No, I know you weren't serious. I don't think that Apple takes our whining into account. They release things when they are good and ready. Hopefully, when the 5Gs do come out, they will have alot of good new features in them to make them worth the wait.
i'm probably one of the few that doesn't care if the 5G came out or not. i'm very much satisfied with my 4G 40gb black and white. as long as it satisfy what i need, which is playing music, then i am ok. i highly doubt that the 5G will have anything more significant for me to drool over... longer battery, sure. more space, sure. but i'm not dying for either of them. unless your job is to listen to your ipod 9-5, my battery will never run out if i charge it every nite when i sleep. of course i'm not saying that others won't want those features, i just find it hard to want to buy the 5G. apple already has a near perfect product, and its hard to perfect what's already been perfected. so take it easy guys, and don't worry about the 5G. as for me, i would only upgrade to the 5G if they made the ipod super thin so that it can better fit my pocket, which i highly doubt that would happen.
Hooray! I was thinking that the whole event might possibly coincide with the 500 million song countdown this morning. Good thinking people. Its yet another thing to count down to and hope that they will release a new ipod when they hit that 500 millin mark.Lets prey it aint another wasted anticipation period.
Im really tempted to go buy alot of songs from itunes just to help it along. Everyone should go and do the same!!
Role on the 500,000,000!!!

Anyone think that the reason that a media event has not happened is because they have not yet reached 500 million songs sold on iTunes?
I wouldn't be surprised if the event that was supposed to have taken place on July 7th was pushed back because they didn't reach the mark when they thought they would.
The information that was circulated was about a media event "before or on July 7th". First, this seems vague for a media event. You'd think that you would want to give the media a clear date and time. It could be that Apple was predicting that this was when the were going to reach the 500 million song mark. When it didn't happen, instead of a full fledged media event, it seems that an iPod accessories event was held in Europe instead.
It could just be that our source was BS, but it does seem more than coincidence though that a rumored media event doesn't materialize when we still have a huge milestone for Apple looming. Apple is making a big deal about it on their website, maybe there is more to it?
