can anyone offer advice? I dropped my ipod classic 120gb about a foot from the floor. yeah genius arn't I.
anyway its now not working. the hard drive started making an uncomfortable sound and then proceeded to freeze. I reset it and now it wont turn on and tells me to go to the apple website for advice. I'm guessing that i have broken the hard-drive, but its no longer under warranty so ill have to pay for repairs.
does anyone know how much this will cost? and if its worth it as i cant really afford to spend that much on another one.

Thanks

Welcome to iLounge.

If the screen is the only part that's damaged, it shouldn't cost that much to repair. It's the labor that will be expensive. This model is not exactly easy to pry open, but once you get it opened, it's pretty much straight forward if you opened the last generation (iPod Video).

I repair iPods as well but don't think I can provide the service here. You might want to read the list of iPod repair services here instead.

Sorry...I meant the drive. Depending on where you get it repaired, the total can be around $100 or more for another 120GB replacement plus labor.

Just to be sure, you can run the diagnostic tests to make sure you are able to enter that area. See the link in my signature on how to get access to it. If you run the hard drive test, it will probably fail.
