My $.79 hook/carabiner iPod Shuffle mod

I thought someone might me interested in my hack to make a clip for the iPod Shuffle. It could not be any simpler and it only costs $.79 for enough material to make 10. I only spent about 20 minutes fabricating it, why spend $20. Here is an image (sorry since I am not established I cannot post images or URLs):

To build it I cut the lanyard from the supplied cap. Then I went Home Depot and bought 1 foot of white chain that is used for hanging lights from the ceiling. Then, on one link, I cut a piece from each side of the joint to make the opening big enough to fit around the cap. After this, it was just a matter using a rag to protect the finish while tightening the chain link into the holes. It looks pretty good, in my opinion. I noticed the white finish started to peel at the bends but it's not too bad.

It is still compatible with any case that supports the lanyard cap. Now I can use a carabiner, any other type of clip or my own lanyard, just like this image.

On the next version I plan to add some kind of swivel or a ring so that I can rotate the carabiner.

If anyone comes up other hacks like this, please post them.

Matt

I like it. It looks like something apple would make, but the Blue clip doesn't look right. I would try and find an all white clip for a more ipod look. Nice mod, and welcome the the lounge.

everlast,

I know what you mean about the clip color. I was just using what I had on hand, but I am always on the lookout for something better.

Another idea I had was to add another bend at the top of the ring so that the clip has a better place to ride. If I change it I will post another picture.

God. That thing is so ugly and horrible... I can't believe you didn't use white. What's the point of making it if it's not white?

you should test how much weight the setup can stand before it comes apart, and when it does, does it come appart at the usb/cap connection. or at the white chain/cap connection. cuz if it comes off at the chain then you need to figure a way to make it more secure.

I did a quick test and the usb/cap connection gives out well before the clip even starts flex. I don't think there is anything to worry about when it comes to strength.

I think it looks great. Everything doesn't have to be white - its not like we live in some post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie world.

Dude that's the greatest! It looks like womething Apple would make. You did an extremely good job fabricating that clip and it looks very stylish.

My personal opinion is that you should get a white clip for it. Otherwise, it's very very sexy

Cheers and good job!
