My shuffle and 3G Lego Stands (Pictures)
Here are some pictures of the lego stand i made for my 3G. The cable is kept in place at the front by two pieces of lego technik, which click into place to clamp the cable in, and the iPod is kept in place by two pieces at the side of the platform which stick up and ensure that it can't fall over sideways. The whole of the platform is at a 50 degree angle to provide a good viewing position of the screen.

Now for the shuffle stand. Since the shuffle won't be in a case when i put it in the stand i decided to use some weird lego pieces that are like soft rubber bumpers to form the area in which the shuffle will be enclosed, so as not to let it be scratched. These cushioned pieces cover the back of the stand and there is one of either side to stop the shuffle falling over. There is also one at the bottom on which the shuffle stands. The entire podium is attached to a lego piece which resembles a hinge, with two parts that can fold apart. This allows me to set the shuffle at any viewing angle i choose. The base is quite large so the stand is stable and not liable to falling over.

i cant believe people think the shuffle needs or deserves a stand. the regular ipod is pretty scratch-prone and also a large investment. the shuffle is plastic and doesnt scratch too easily. even if it does, you dont notice it without close inspection. its also a lot cheaper. i just dont see the need.
aparently you did, and i dont see any fault in that. the stands seem well thought out, but why dont you integrate a USB cable into the shuffle stand? you can get one online for $5 and then the shuffle stand would make a nice dock. |

The pics look great! Too bad they can't be bigger
I think this idea is very practical, as it establishes an area where you can rest your iPod without worry of any other obstacles as he mentioned with the books on the desk. This was what I was looking to create, as I can spend the $39 CDN for the dock on the wall charger or case (still deciding ; please help!). Thanks for this!

i wouldnt get any of the apple accesories. i got a $0.99 extension cable for a "dock" and a wall charger for $4.50.
if you just have to get something, though, i would get the dock. cases will be had for cheaper later, and you can get a wall charger for a lot cheaper (and no one sees the wall charger anyways) |

zip22, where did you pick up the wall charger for $4.50? That sounds incredible, even if it is in American dollars! Is the voltage and technical specifications compatible with the shuffle? I don't want to fry mine so soon!

i got it from randomsource.com, but they dont carry it anymore. you can find it online for <$10 US. heres a quick froogle search
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...ogle&scoring=p its called the zip-linq USB wall adapter and it puts out exact USB power spec so it charges the shuffle fine. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/DSCF0479.jpg sorry for the thread jack |
