Unhappy corrupt file

Has anyone else had this problem? I plug my ipod in to my PC... itunes starts ... then I get this warning message telling me the following.

DDE Server Window:iTunes.exe corrupt file

THe file or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunes temp is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.

Well, I've run chkdsk, and the problem persists. Has any one got any idea on how to combat this issue?

Many thanks in advance.

Im case anyone is mildly interested ... I've got this fixed by restoring the factory settings. A ##### of a way to fix it ... but there would seem no other way.

When you say that you "restored the factory settings", I assume that you are referring to the iPod. I have tried this and then re-docked and got the same error. This error doesn't seem to effect the functionality of iTunes or the iPod. Have you heard of any other solutions?

and I did restore the settings on the ipod which involved reformatting ... but it seemed to work.
I'm afraid of heard of no other solutions to this problem.

Error: The file or directory \iPod_Control\... is corrupt or unreadable

I get this error when I start itunes with my 4g 20GB ipod attached:
The file or directory \iPod_Control\Device\Sysinfo is corrupt or
unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.

I am running win2000, itunes for Windows 4.7, latest firmware (3.02 I think).

Everything seems to work OK, but the message is annoying.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Plug it in and completely restore the iPod that should do it.

And since both of you guys its seems are rolling with the 4G if that doesn't work i would go to an Apple Store and return it.

rhoopes: You can try a reset (i.e., reboot)...it certainly can't hurt. But I suspect you'll need to run the Restore from the iPod Updater software to fix this problem.

I had a corrupt file message (related to play_count so not quite the same). Rebooting the iPod (menu + select button) solved it.

No it doesn't. I've got this message and I've just tried a reset.

I'll post later to let you know if it's worked

Exclamation Error when connecting iPod : iTunes: iTunes.exe - Corrupt File

Sometimes when I connect my iPod to the computer Windows a windows error pops up. I've pasted the system log entry below. There doesn't appear to be any problem at all with my iPod. When I browse the iPod's hard drive to the file mentioned in the error (play counts), that file doesn't exist. Well at least it's not visible, Windows can sometime hide files very well.

As the error mentions play counts I've also noted if anything seems to be wrong with the play counts of the songs, but they seem to be working normally.

I have tried to run the iPod's scan disk utility, following the instructions found elsewhere on this site, but I just cannot seem to press the buttons in the correct way. I gave up on this after about 20 attempts.

My decision so far has been to ignore this error, however I'm interested to hear if anyone has any ideas about what it might be.

Regards

Paul

chkdsk question

Hi,

I was updating my iPod (via iTunes) and got a pop up message saying the following:

iTunes:iTunes.exe - corrupt file. The file or directory \ipod_control\iTunes\play count is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.

I am not to familiar with that command but was able to try this: chkdsk /f (from Start - run). But it says it cannot as the volume is in use by another. So anyone know how to use the chkdsk command for this problem or have another idea how to fix the corrupt file?

Running XP Home.

Also as I originally posted in the iTunes section I was not aware someone else posted a similar question here, sorry.

Thanks
Logan
