No more CompUSA TAP

According to the manager, it seems that they don't offer TAP on iPods anymore.

I brought my iPod in to a customer service counter, and asked about TAP. I showed my PayPal receipt, since I bought it from someone in Boston via eBay. It was dated for September 24th, 2003. I showed her my iPod, and she took it to check the serial number to see if it was under warranty. Turns out the estimated purchase date was 9/4/03. She said I'd be fine, and the 2-year TAP would cost $44.95.

Unfortunately, when she handed me over to the cashier, he had to get the manager. He said I couldn't get TAP, so he offered the Apple Care Protection Plan.

Fine, I'm going snowboarding on Friday, I want some kind of insurance in case I don't get the iPod Armor in time. $64.94 later, I'm insured.

Anyways, I believe there's an Apple Store in Pasadena...so could I bring my iPod there if something happens? I really don't want to go through the hassle of having to ship it and stuff...that's the only reason why I wanted to get CompUSA TAP.

Thanks!

Bryan

I believe that CompUSA is really an apple store in disguise. They are the only electronics chain in the US that officially sells all of the Apple hardware, so I believe that that they just dropped the iPod TAP for the AppleCare plan. They probably loose a lot of money letting people return their iPods all the time, so by adopting the AppleCare plan (a more restrictive warranty), they are just covering their @$$es. That just my $.02.

i find this a bit hard to believe since CompUSA makes a lot of money on each protection program sold. maybe it was a matter of the fact you bought yours on eBay and not from a store.

if this is true, i sure hope they honor previous TAP plans as i bought one a few months ago for my iPod.

Oh well, I hope I never have to use it...and if I do, hopefully things go smoothly.

I'm sure CompUSA would honor if you've already bought a TAP plan...no worries, Mediahound.

Merry Christmas!
