iPod Lock-In!

Here's a little story for y'all.

This actaully happened to me about 5 months ago, but I never thought to retell it here.

Lock-In: When a group (usually of kids) is "locked-in" to a building for a whole night. Generally games, food and other such entertainment are provided along with an admission fee.

I'm a member of my High School newspaper, the Hat Chat (I go to Hatboro-Horsham High School in Horsham, PA if anyone's interested). We (the paper) put together and sponsored a Lock-In at the school. We got free food from surrounding resteraunts, local bands played for free, teachers and parents chaperoned, and charged $10 for admission. Every ounce of the money we raised that night went to Sunami Relief Aid.

Okay, that's the end of the backstpry, now on to how this relates to iPods...

When I got there it was still early in the night, around 10:30. I did the normal, lock-in type activities. Heard my friends band play, competed in a volleyball tournament, snuck into the closed-off parts of the school *snickers* that sort of thing. So at about 2:00 a.m. we (my friends and I) started getting tired. So, we bought some Red Bull energy drinks and went to hang out in the auditorium. The auditorium was kind of the quiet place in the school where you could go to relax/snooze. As soon as we got there we saw our friend who's on sound crew for school plays. He was hanging out in the sound room setting up the equipment. We came in and found out he was getting ready to play his MP3 player over the sound system in the auditorium!

Here is where the iPod comes into play.
My friend and I had our iPods with us and after he had oplayed some stuff from his iRiver, we asked if we could "DJ" for a bit. He gave us free range of the room and we had our iPods playing for hours. We even took requests! At one point a girl came up with her iPod and aske dif we could play some of her music. Everyone else wanted to use her's so we did! It was great and we were blaring music till around 4 o'clock!

All we did was plug a cord into the iPod's headphone jack and into some stereo-type-thingy. I don't know exactly what it was because like I said my AV friend set it up.

Pretty cool though, we had alot of fun that night, and raised a ton of money for charity!

I have one of those cables. They can be found at radio shack. They're quite common- the headphone jack cable for the sound channeling through left and right (red and white) cables into a stereo system, or a TV. It is really cool. http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=42-2550

It's that, right?

Man, sounds like an awesome party. That would have been awesome!

now that sounds like a lot of fun! the next time you schedule a lock in spread the word for your fellow students to bring their iPod/mp3 players, that way you have an even more diverse selection of music!

Great idea! It could be on the flyer thatwe hand out and post on the walls of the school.

I imagine we'll be doing it again this year, it was such a success last year.

I went to a lock-in at a rock gym once and played our music through their sound system. It was awesome.

I have a very similar experience. We were having our cast party for the musical and the house had a sweet audio setup, but was very limited in music. People were geetin very bored and were wanting to leave at like 11PM...... Then the idea hit me and I ran out to my car to get my tape deck adapter and ipod. Then I started to DJ and no one wanted to leave. The party went long and strong til the break of dawn. Sorry, did that rhyme? Anyway, I saved the party and it was nice because people could just go up to the ipod and pick out their favorite tunes like you would do at any other party with a DJ. I have since used my ipod for nearly everything.

I have used the music feature for presentation. I have used it as a hard disk and actually ran presentations off of it, you would be surprized how many people didn't know you could do that. I have created random parties in the school and saved even more. I listen to recordings of myself to better my musicianship. I have played lectures publicaly and for myself. The ipod can be an excelent tool for work or play and I can't imagine a day without it.
