Why portable video still isn't the way to go.

Pretty interesting read IMO. Now the question is, does it make sense for Apple to go ahead with a ViPod?

Video; what a rubbish addition. It's a complete waste to put it on a music player which doesn't leave my pocket through fear of crime.

Rubbish until you go on a 15 hour flight, where they only show 4 movies, of which two you refuse to see. Or until you go on a 12 hour roadtrip. Or until you spend days and days on a tour bus. Or until.... well, anyway, point is there are some practical uses for it. God knows there have been innumerable times I've wished I had video playback.

Now the question is, is that market big enough to justify a ViPod?

Video, yes; video on an iPod; no. I'd rather spend more on a portable DVD player, at least I'd benefit from a larger screen, better sound etc.

I don't see the problem with Video on the iPod as long as its INTEGRATED into the current way we play music is all.

All i care about is not having the music aspect be ruined (which i'm sure apple wouldn't dare touch seeing as how its brought them back from nothing).

The article states "market support just isn't there" but there was no market support when the iPod came out, and i was insulted for the fact i wanted one! fast forward 4 years and look how things have changed!

PSP is perfect for that. It would be nice of Sony would come out with cheaper hi capacityt MS or writable UMDs.

I'm sure Apple can figure out a way to make video as seemless as it is with the added photos. But yeah, I for one can't really see myself using it on a daily basis. Maybe if I was traveling but hey, 60gb ipods plus video seems pretty neat imo. Probably a good way to hide porn and then hook it up to a tv likr you can with photos :P

Well, I figure if a poor college student can find enough justification for one, just about anyone should be able to. I think that the market for it will most likely be about the same as for the photo ipods now. The same people will be able to afford one, and will enjoy the added features. Plus, they'll be the ones taking the trips.

I'd rather have a DVD player... a 7" screen is just more appealing than the 2" screen of an iPod. And I don't want to see the iPods get bigger just for video.

I would find Video integration on the iPod useful, if only to get non-iPod users another reason to get one!

I have been on anb extremely long flight (12 Hours) and unfortunatly their movie system was broken.

Anyway, luckily, I had remembered to bring my PMP. It was great and it passed the time like nothing else!

I would definatly use the video on the iPod if something like that happened again.

I don't think we need all our gadgets to "multi-task," as it were. MP3 players that also play videos, cell phones that are personal organizers. Me, I like to keep each piece for its own purpose. No use lugging your whole world around all the time, even if it is smallish. Next thing you know they'll be coming out with a calculator/digital media player/camera/mini PC that also does your dishes...
