Hey everyone, iTunes 4.9 is now available for download since 4 AM (EST). Altought I've tryed the podcast feature since it seems they didn't added any yet. I must be the first who downloaded it =) The page itself was saying iTunes 4.8 but the download was 4.9, funny.

To view the iTunes Podcast list:
1- Click on Music Store
2- Click on Audiobooks
3- Click on Podcast

Hope they'll fix that... A bit hard to find out when you don't know.

swy32x

True, that is hard to find out! I wonder how people get their podcasts onto iTunes ...

swy32x

Don't know if this is news to you guys, but by going to Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast and you can add individual Podcasts, like TWiT. I'm going to be listening to these things all week

Some things I noticed which I think are new to 4.9:

* Collapse arrow next to iPod, which when expanded shows all playlists synced to the iPod
* An exclamation mark next to some smart playlists in the iPod list (according to the Help file, this means that "one of the conditions for this Smart Playlist is a playlist that is not available". This makes sense since I have some playlists for my iPod which reference other playlists through "Playlist is not ...")

Cheers
Bernd

I just noticed that first point too. Extremely helpful, also helps you know what podcasts you have on your iPod.

Palmin

Something else:

* Context menu entry "Playlists" on individual tracks shows all playlists in which this track is located (I am not sure if this is really new, but I think I have heard a lot of people requesting something like this)

No problem finding podcasts here!!! (Click on the podcast source and it will take you to the podcast section in the music store). I have subbed to several podcasts already.

NICE job Apple!

dwfan3

is the podcast service FREE?

-James

Yer, do you have to pay for Podcasts?

Mando

So far, all of the podcasts I have found are "Free"

Also, check this out (from news.com)...

The latest release of Apple Computer's jukebox software has some hints that a long-anticipated iTunes-compatible cell phone may be coming soon.

Apple's primary focus for the update was to add support for podcasts. However, a library file included with the new iTunes 4.9 software makes several references to mobile phone features. These include messages such as "Automatically choose songs for my mobile phone" and "The name of my mobile phone is." The messages are not viewable from within iTunes, but rather in an add-on file that can be opened using a text editor.

Apple and Motorola announced plans for an iTunes-compatible phone back in July 2004, but the project has been said to have hit some snags, with carriers reluctant to sign on. However, more recently there have been reports that an announcement should be coming soon.

The messages within iTunes appear to support that. Other messages in the library file include "No phone connected" and "Open iTunes when this mobile phone is attached."

Apple has been known to include features in its software that don't immediately show up but are activated once the needed hardware is released.

On Tuesday, Apple released iTunes 4.9 with support for podcasts, but the company declined to comment on when the Motorola phone might be available. An Apple representative was not immediately available to comment on the phone references.

The existence of the phone references was noted earlier by enthusiast site Macshrine.com

I downloading a bunch of free podcasts but I can't listen to them or sync them with my iPod. Message says "This computer is not authorized to listen to this podcast." I've had an iTunes account for a couple of years now. What gives?
