Combining Artist Colloborations Question

Jordan2112

Hi, I'm new here. I've looked around this forums many a time and found plenty of help with little problems in my iTunes. I feel I'm using it as a much more powerful piece of software than I would be without you. So initially thanks for that. However I do have one little problem that I've never seen answered here and would love to have sorted as it drives me insane.

On my iTunes I have the following artists;

Robert Plant
Robert Plant & Allison Krauss
Robert Plant & The Strange Sensation
Robert Plant & Jimmy Page

Now these are all artists who have I have full albums by. So it's not just a case of within a Robert Plant solo album there is one song that features The Strange Sensation. He made an entire album with this band as well as the other two colloborations I have listed. Is there anyway I can combine them all under the generic heading Robert Plant but still have them show up with the official artist title, if you like, when I click to play them.

Thanks.

Nobody got any advice on this????

You can use the "Artist/Album" column to associate the albums under one name.

I assume you mean the "Album Album" field? I tried this but it seems it only works if it's the odd song on an album where the majority is by another artist and you just want one song that has a guest slot. What I'm talking about here is an entire album with a "with" If you mean something different from what I've already explained and tried please explain in some more detail.

Thanks!

I mean Album/Artist field. I use it to associate albums by different artists when one is a guest or produces album/songs.

Example: I have kirk franklin and he also produces One Nation Crew & kirk franklin & the family so I use this field to associate them. When I use search & his name all the albums/groups he produces and the songs come up in iTunes but not on the iPod. Everything remains the same tag wise with the original album/songs. If you want to play all of the songs from this artist you can use the album/artist field to bring them up.

If you didn't put the name in that field in all of the songs/albums in question then try doing so.

Using Robert Plant & Allison Krauss as an example - put Robert Plant in the Album Artist field and Robert Plant & Allison Krauss in the Artist field. Then when you're browsing by Artists in the Column Browser in iTunes (Ctrl+B to activate) the tracks will be listed under both Robert Plant and Robert Plant & Allison Krauss. This only works if you have at least one track This behavior doesn't transfer to my iPod (5th gen - not sure if it works on newer iPods), but since I can browse by Composer on the iPod I also put the Album Artist in the Composer field.

Hi thanks, this is closer to what I'm trying to acheive but still not perfect. Is there no way to have Robert Plant and Allison Krauss not show up in the browse view on my iPod and all listed under "Robert Plant" but when showing still show the artist as "& Allision Krauss"

As far as I know, there is no way to browse by Album Artist only. However, since iTunes 9 you can browse by Composer, so putting the Album Artist in the Composer field is one way to do what you want.

Galley

Grid View browses by Album Artist.

That's good to know. I don't think I've ever even tried using grid view.
