Hello all,

Has anybody had this problem with iTunes 9: After adding several songs from the same artist to my playlist, iTunes 9 would only show the songs genre but not the artist on my iPod window. I've tried re-installing iTunes and restoring my iPod to factory settings, but the problem remains.

Once synced (by checking the genre box), iTunes is able to load those songs into my iPod.

I've never seen this happen before so I am quite puzzled by it. Any ideas or suggestions as to a solution

It's probably the tags of the songs. They probably do not have the Artist tag populated.

Try selecting these songs in iTunes, right click, Get Info, update the Artist and click OK.
Sync the songs to the iPod and test.

Yes, I tried filling the Artist tag but that didn't work. I also tried re-ripping the CD using iTunes, and still no go.

Have you tried to sync the iPod so the songs come off of it? Then sync the songs back on to it?

Another idea is to Restore your iPod.

Yes, I have done both removing and re-syncing the iPod and restoring it to factory settings. After restoring, I made sure to put those songs first (they're only from one group - the B-52's) and then synced by clicking the artist genre box.

Although the artist does not appear on the artist window, the songs do appear on the iPod, covers and everything.

Weird, no? I think this to be an iTunes glitch since I've never had this problem with previous versions.

It can't really be an iTunes issue, since iTunes is not involved with the iPod playback.

The only thing I can think of is the artist is there, but not where you expect. Sorting is odd when it comes to - and numbers, they are at the end of the list.

So if you scroll down to the top of the C's do you see B-52's just above the C's?

I suspect that you'll find them there.

Those songs do show up on the iPod. It was when I put them in my music library before syncing them into the iPod that I noticed that I could see the genre but not the artist on the music tab of the device window of iTunes.

I could show you a pic once I find out how to load a pic on the forum.
