I have six seasons, 81 episodes of a tv show on my ipod touch. when i select video, then tv shows, it just lists every episode, in random order.
can i sort these by season or at least put them in sequential order? thank you. |

Do you have them tagged correctly in iTunes?

Right click the TV Shows and choose Get Info. TV Shows need the Video tab's Show (Show name), Season and Episode numbers filled in to be properly sorted. The Show and Season numbers can be added by batch editing, select all season 1 episodes right click and Get Info. But the Episode numbers will have to be added individually unless someone knows of a good tag editor that will number them automatically.
I use an Applescript "Set Video Kind of Selected" to batch edit TV Shows in iTunes on a Mac. It will sequentially number the TV Shows for me.

Welcome to iLounge.
You should be able to right click on your video file in iTunes and select Get Info to see if the tags are correct. Edit: Sparkee beat me to it

Well, I checked all the fields that you suggested and everything checks out. So in the title field I put the number of the episodes at the front of the title. 01, 02, 03 etc. After resyncing they are still all jumbled and out of order. I dont seem to understand. Any help is much appreciated.

The episodes are not sorted by the Name field in the Info tab however I also add the episode number here for my reference. They should be sorting by the Show Name, Season number then Episode number as filled in the Video tab.
I believe date added or release date may also be involved here as well. You can check this by adding a Date Added column to your TV Shows section by right clicking on the column header. My 1G touch with the original software as well as my Apple TV had some issues with my ripped DVD TV shows which where ripped and added out of order. If the Video tabs fields are properly filled in try removing all seasons from iTunes. Add them starting with season 1 and this will reset the "Date Added" meta data which is not editable. You may have to find the shows in the Movies section and reset the Media Kind back to TV Show.
