Question Sync Applications from touch to iTunes

I have a new ipod touch (my first ipod) and have downloaded several programs from the app store directly onto the ipod using a wireless connection. However, when I try to sync the applications, iTunes wants to overwrite (Erase) the ipod.

When this happens, I have to download the applications all over again. (I am still not sure if I have to pay again or not - I suppose I will find that out when I get the bill).

Is there a way to force the ipod / iTunes to sync the applications FROM the ipod TO the computer?

I have not been able to find any setting where I can force the sync direction.

That's strange. Synching is two-way. You shouldn't have to pay again-- iTunes knows what you've purchased and will let you download it again at no charge.

When you press sync in iTunes, what message are you getting?

Ibelieve syncing is ONE WAY==from iTunes to iPod or iTouch, which is why there are third party programs available to sync from iPod back to iTunes.

Having the same problems with iTunes 9--the apps for the Touch show "shaded" and I can'tmove them into the left-side screen to manipulate them, delete them, etc.

Well, there are several places were the synching is two-way. As part of the synching process, the i-device is backed up, so that's two-way! Ebooks are backed up so if you have to restore, they will reappear. Plus, and this is most crucial for the OP, if I download an app on the i-device and then sync, it will appear in iTunes, right?

What happens with Calendar or Contacts? If you make changes in your i-device, don't the changes show up in iTunes? Or maybe not! I use Appigo's Todo and Appigo Synch and calendar and todo changes can go both ways. (That's the specialized 3rd party app and program approach you were talking about.)

If you attach your ipod and go to itunes. Right click on your device and hit transfer purchases. That worked for me and I transfered my new applications to my itunes.

No, it will just copy the apps from the iPod to iTunes. If you don't sync it back, it will remove the apps from the iPod.
