Havinga music collections as big as we have now days, I find it increasingly hard to keep any sort of order in mine. How do other people sort their music?

- 1 big folder of everything mashed together and let playlist sort it out?
- folders for full albums?
- sort by genre and then album?

argh its driving me crazy...

My latest atempt is going to be

..\Artists
....\ArtistName
......\Album
..\VA/Mix
..\Sets
..\Singles/unsorted

i'm doing Genre\Artist\Album in folders and for each album i have the playlist for the album in the folder. works well for me. Also, I put in folder.jpg for the album in folders so that XP shows the album cover as the thumbnail art so browsing is easily as heck

This is a big problem for me. I tend to be a little anal when organizing my music.

Some days it is Genre\Artist\Album and other days it is by rankings or some other things.

Any tips for that or do you just save them in the folder? I started to do it but now XP started putting album cover pictures on all my folders. I'll create a folder for say Bruce Springsteen and it will automatically assign it a random album cover like Black Sabbath or something. I can't for the life of me figure out why...

I just put the songs in the folder and then get the album cover from Allmusic.com, save the cover art as folder.jpg and put it in the folder. Not sure why it would assign a random cover since that never happens to me

Yeah thats what I figured...

Ever since I started doing it, it gives all folders on both my hard drive random cd covers as the folder picture. #### Microsoft...

here's what I do:

My downloading/ripping programs send the mp3's to one big folder on the desktop called "music"

from there, i either rename the downloaded ID3 tag or just leave it be. Then I create an artist name (if not already made) and drag and drop it in there. Inside that artist's folder i have more folders consisting of each individual cd title, and "music videos" I then use MPEG audio organizer (best one ive ever used) because it's search function is so useful. You type in what you want and it brings up EVERYTHING with that title. Weather it be the artist's name, album, or song title.
