Just wondering (if you're a user) -- what happens when an iPod syncs with iTunes? Does the stuff DL'd from FlyBy get wiped, or is it transferred back to iTunes? If they've managed to get their material to "sync back" to iTunes, that's a nice bit of coding ;-)

(I'm sure it's a wonderful service...just don't want advertising on my iPod ;-)

re: syncing with flyby

Hi S2_Mac

we are currently making a solution for this exact problem that you mention. iTunes would by default delete all songs that were not synced to the device using iTunes itself (as you sure know). We on the other hand are very careful with your tracks. We would never delete tracks off your iPod and we always keep backups, so that if something goes wrong, we can restore the ipod state.

The actual solution we are considering is disabling iTunes auto-sync. This way you would be able to control what goes on your iPod and what doesn't. We are gathering feedback , and we would be very interested to know what you think of this approach? Would you consider this a reasonable alternative?

As for the advertisements. You shouldn't worry. Our advertisements are visual only(non-audio), so they are absolutely non-intrusive. We've even went to the extent of fusing the original albumart with the advertisement, so that your experience is totally unchanged. On the other hand, all the music that you play essentially builds revenue for the performing artists. This is why we've came up with our business model, which is to generate revenue for the music industry without impacting the normal experience from playing on your iPod. They deserve it!

Actually, on average only 8% of the tracks on an iPod have album arts. And people who don't have arts on most of their songs like us even better. With flyby you have album arts on all track, and combined with the visual ad, it trully looks gorgeous on the new iPod classics. Its a very fun and enjoyable experience. You should check us out and tell us what you think!

I remember signing up for this a while ago, probably when this was first posted here. I haven't used it in a long time however and I have a couple of questions (if you still check back her).

1. Does the ipod sync support the newer ipods? I dl'd the addon for firefox but when I connected my ipod it did nothing, and the sync ipod button does nothing either.

2. I'm trying to upload songs, but they don't seem to upload, they just sit there with the progress bar...

IDK, maybe its maintenance time or the sites been dead for a while but I was just wondering. Hope this is just a fluke because I would LOVE to have my music collection available anywhere

hi ackbar11,

We are just releasing our new interface and needless to say you've hit some bugs . Our dev team is working very hard to address them. We discovered both issues yesterday and we expect that they will be fixed within the next day or two. I'll make another post here to let you know when they are in fact fixed.

Thanks so much for the reply! As per your question 2), yes, we do support newer iPod models!

Awesome! I'm glad the site is still going strong (I feared it might have been abandoned)! The upload feature is working and I got all my music on there. Once the ipod-sync feature is fixed this will be one of my new favorite websites

That is so cool to hear!

As you noticed, the uploads are fixed now! We are still working our way though the new sync interface which should be out really soon! Stay tuned!

Well, after I uploaded all my music I started browsing the sight to see what was available. I noticed soon after that all the tracks I had uploaded were available to the public. I knew this couldn't be legal so I checked the help section and it DID say something about only uploading tracks you had the right to distribute. However this disclaimer seemed a little out of the way.

1. How do I delete tracks I uploaded? I don't want to break the law.

2. A private library would be a nice feature, although it would likely be expensive... if it could work that would also be cool, but its no biggie

3. Moving that disclaimer to somewhere more obvious would probably be a good idea. idk maybe I'm just stupid this way : /

And if I'm mistaken on any of this please let me know

Hi ackbar11,
we really introduced the upload feature for bands and musicians that want to promote their music and get it monetized through FlyBy. We removed the tracks that you uploaded from our search index so that they are not visible to others because of concerns of copyright infringement.
However, we think that there is a lot of value in users uploading their personal libraries online (for private personal use), so we are adding the ability to set your library public or private. For your convenience, we did not delete the tracks you uploaded from your own library. As soon as we complete this feature you would be able to search and play the tracks you uploaded again, while being reassured that nobody but yourself can access them.
To answer your other questions :
1) Currently there is no way of removing tracks, other than contacting us directly
2) You’ll have it 
3) We're definitely thinking about how we can make this more intuitive

Unbelievable! This website is looking to become an impressive accomplishment!

I realize now that it is still kinda in a "testing" phase but I still plan on using it. if I notice anything important I'll let you guys know!

I think this will be an awesome asset to ipod users who dislike itunes as it would provide another, less resource consuming environment for holding their music and allowing ipod sync.

2 more quick questions.

1. will users be allowed to sync all their music at once, or will it be song-by-song. If so what kind of control will users have over what gets sync'd?

2. this is kind of a stretch, but do you have any plans of podcast support? itunes podcast simplicity is what really keeps me from hating on it. I love to be able to pop my ipod in the dock, wait for it to sync and then grab it on my way out the door so I can listen tothe news/weather on my way to school. again, just a little idea.

thats all for now, and thanks a lot for all these answers

Right to the questions :

1) Even better Ever wanted to add a song to your ipod but it wasn't really around? Well with flyby you can queue your songs to your iPod even when its disconnected. Once you connect it, all new tracks that you queued would be transferred to it at once... directly from your browser, no matter what computer you are on!

2) Seems like you are very excited about podcasts! We do want to get some more use cases around them, but it is definitelly something we are interested in doing. It would be very valuable to see if others care very much about podcasts and if so, whether this would be a decisive factor for trying/using a service like ours. If so, we can definitelly shift our priorities and build it sooner .. and hopefully better

Heya, just been browing through the wesbite, it's a really god idea and when I update my ipod so I actually have space for more music I'll probably start using it, but I'm just wondering, does it support ipod touch? I only ask because it's not mentioned in the list of supported players. Thanks,
Abi x

Hey AbiMF,
unfortunately currently we do not support iPhone/iPod touch yet, though we are in the process of thinking what we can do to fill this gap.

If anybody has any suggestions/requests what they want to see in a music related iPhone app.. please feel free to share your thoughts!!!

So can you download music off of this site onto your ipod? or just listen to the music on the site and upload your own?
