hey all! (first post)
i need a list of 7,500 to 30,000 must-have songs for my ipod (lol. 30,000 )everyone can throw in their recommendations, not matter how many or few songs it is. then i can compile a list from the posts and download them it can be an ongoing project! ![]() anyway, i'll listen to anything besides rap (except kanye west, and other non-stupid rap) or obnoxiously screamy heavy music. (with the exception of Bodies )any music from the 80s to 00s, unless it's pink floyd, the eagles, etc. (classic rock) then it can be from before the 80s but it has to be good music, and not too explicit either, please and since i have lots of space to play with, don't be afraid to list too many! ![]() so, let's get started! Well if your talking about the 80's I'd recommend any thing from Prince & The Revolution (83-87(Sign `o the times) and for me the late 80's to mid 90's I would recommend The Stone Roses.

I'm sorry you weren't able to experience the '80s firsthand. It really was the greatest decade in history.

Just thinking of some other albums I liked from that decade:
Elvis Costello - Punch the Clock Dire Straights - Making Movies, Brothers in Arms It occurs to me that I've been listing albums when you're looking for songs. A Google search of "best 80s music" will turn up exactly what you're looking for. The first match is generally a good list: http://www.afn.org/~afn30091/80songs.html |

REMEMBER, not just 80s!
i want mainly 1990-2008 stuff, and some 80s and only very good 70s nothing older than that. and also, is there a service like napster to go that is like a to-go service where but will work with an ipod? i can't afford to pay a buck a song, but i reallly hate using limewire the tags are always CRAP! it's never sorted, and i don't have the time (or patience! ) to manually look up the info and change the tags for 5000 songsi really want to just be able to FILL my ipod with good music without spending 5 grand OR using reta.rdwire. please tell me if you know of a good service, even if it's not totally legal! as long as i get an organized music collection, then i'll be happy. |

None of the all-you-can-eat music services work with the iPod. You may want to look at getting a Creative mp3 player, as most of them are compatible with things like Napster's To-Go service. Napster's service is very good, for less thant twenty dollars a month you can get all the songs you want. They do stop working if your service ends though. But as long as you pay, you can listen.
Maybe you should seek out a used record store in your area and invest in used CD's. Or, you could scour the net and look for ways to legally obtain free music. There are way, albeit time consuming. iTunes also has tons of great compilation albums based on genres, artists, decades, etc. As far as ways that aren't legal, I don't think we can discuss them here, but there are obviously tons of easy ways to get free tagged music. |

i'm not getting another mp3 player, because the ipod i just ordered isn't even here yet! O_o
is there a way to download napster-to-go songs without buying them or using those stupid things that just record the stream of audio going out of your computer? *sigh* i just wish there was a way to get free tagged music easily...

The only way that you can get Napster-To-Go songs onto an iPod is to use a sound recording program as you cannot burn those songs to an audio CD. So I recommend that you look elsewhere for your music as Napster-To-Go uses the ever crappy 128kbps WMA audio format and, when you record the audio and compress it to the mp3/AAC audio format, you will be losing even more audio quality. All-in-all, I don't think it is worth the price. You might as well just go buy the CDs. I think there is even a website that sells all their CDs for $6.99 each and they normally have new CDs on that website a few days/weeks after the retail releases.
Amazon's mp3 store charges about $0.88 per song and they are in the mp3 format as well. There isn't a monthly subscription service that is compatible with the iPod. Now, the Zune has its own subscription service and both the Creative and most of the SanDisk line of players will work with Napster's subscription service but that is about it. So ditch Napster and look for other legal sources for your music as your Napster files will only work on your computer and you can't do anything with them but play them.

Actually, Napster went to 192kbps at some point. All the songs I have are 192kbps WMA files.
I still don't recommend it though, the interface is clunky and the software unresponsive at times. The only cool thing is that you can access your library for streaming through any internet connected computer. But not working with the iPod is a huge drawback. Really, you're either going to legally obtain music or you're going to illegally download it. The middleground (which there is very little) is shaky at best. |
