I was cleaning up my library just now, moving music around from the multiple drives I have to make room for more music, deleting some old stuff because I am running out of room everywhere. This prompted me to create some smart playlists to get a better picture of how much music I add into my library. Originally I did this on a monthly basis, but have since changed the criteria to annual. Below is my last three years of importing music into iTunes. 2006 is a skewed number as my entire library was re-imported after upgrading OS X to Tiger, without properly backing up my library to keep ratings, music count and most importantly date added.

2006 19793 songs 61.1 days 113.10gb
2007 9491 songs 33.2 days 63.95gb
2008 2035 songs 6.8 days 11.85gb

2008 so far has been a bit slower, I have less time to dedicate to sitting in front of my computer importing/tagging/managing my music. I have about 30cds of music that need to be imported.

So I wondering if any of you would like to share your stats from your music library?

2005: 1864 items 8.87GB (created my library in December and started started adding items to it, hadn't ripped most of my CD collection at that point)
2006: 7061 items 35.91GB (by this point my entire CD collection was ripped)
2007: 4607 items 24.14BG
2008: 1546 items 8.22GB so far

It's pretty inaccurate because so much has been re-encoded and subsequently re-imported, particularly last year when I started using Nero's AAC encoder, but here goes:

2004: 5538 items @ 34.86 GB
2005: 1557 items @ 8.66 GB
2006: 1858 items @ 11.08 GB
2007: 20588 items @ 120.30 GB
2008: 839 items @ 5.54 GB so far...

In 2008? That is a tough one but I have imported about 56 songs worth of content. There hasn't been much in terms of album releases for me. I have purchased two albums on CD and two more albums through the iTunes Store. That is always how it is for me though. The years always start off slow and then I purchase a crapload of music in the summer and winter.

Too bad you didn't ask this question about 2007 as that is when I completed a lossless archive of my music and I ripped about 12,000 songs worth of CDs.

just moved from shared pc to my own mbp. 'cos the pc was shared i deleted stuff regularly & kept it at roughly 15gb.

now i've been repairing CDs & getting back into downloads. but i'm not putting all my CDs on. some things sound really dated. i'm up to 33gb now but for a 20gb ipod.

Well, about a month ago I migrated to a new computer, so I can't use iTunes "Date Added" feature, but based on memory, I've added 148 songs (including music videos) to my library.

I'm sure it's more than that, but I can't be sure without getting out my old computer and looking. That'll have "Date Added" accurate until last fall.

Easily 10-15 thousand more.

Late last year or early this year I went through the arduous process of ripping all of my discs into lossless formats. I've also discovered a couple of GREAT live-concert bootleg sites which I've downloaded several dozen live shows from. I also convert all iTunes AAC tracks to mp3 for better compatability (of course, I keep the original files for archiving. I have a "Purchased/Lossless playlist with all purchased, lossless and lossless CD rips for archiving purposes) So for every disc I rip, mp3/iTunes purchase or lossless album I download, I have the original copy and a 192kbps VBR mp3 file.

If we're talking unique songs, then it's about half that number.

BTW, this forum here has been a great resource for helping me better sort my library.
