1. Well what the @#%@#$%$!#%! is it like the title asks
2. Where and when did you get it? 3. How much did it cost? 4. Also, who is one artist you have that you doubt anyone else has even heard of? |

Weird Al Yankovic's Peter and the Wolf. It's out of print and has been so for quite some time. I got it for 20 bucks on eBay a couple years ago, normally it sells for a lot more, so it was a good buy. People have heard of most if not all of my bands.

Rarest CD ... hmmm ... dunno that, but being a bit older I have some rare albums:
- First run 'Tommy' by The Who, which I bought from a friend who unfortunately had played it a fair amount already. - One you wouldn't know: 'Five Pieces 1975' by Anthony Braxton. I love this one - it has been out of print for ~30 years, and even though I only ever played it to make tapes there is a fair amount of crackle, which you can hear on my MP3 versions/. |

The rarest CD I had was "A History of Sport Fishing" from Thee More Shallows. I bought one of the last ones in print directly from the band. Since then, a label has re-issued it so its no longer rare. Only the original one with the ugly gray cover is rare. Its probably also the band that nobody has heard of, but I have several of their albums.
The rarest CD I have now is "Big World" by Joe Jackson. Its not even listed on his website Discography. It was originally recorded in 1986, too long for vinyl and intended for CD release, but it didn't initially get released on CD. It was released on 3-side vinyl - the second vinyl disk was completely smooth on one side (I still have mine). It was eventually printed on CD for some period of time, I'm not sure when. It was never all that popular so its not hard to find, though. You can still get new ones from Amazon resellers. I got mine for about $15. The rarest audio I have is probably a Woody Allen stand-up from before he made movies. |

The rarest CD that I have is an actual official pressing of The Spooky Kids' demo CD. It only has 5 songs on it but I was able to get Marilyn Manson to sign it. It is rare because not many were made and it actually says Marilyn Manson's real name in the album. I have that thing sealed in plastic and in a little plastic cube for display.
I also have the re-pressed Spooky Kids album that was distributed without Manson's permission. It has the original album cover that shows a cartoon character with a likeness to Manson. They had to take those off the shelves and replace them with ones that don't have any cartoon characters for legal reasons.

Danielle Brisebois' second album, "Portable Life". It was never commercially released. The only existing copies are promo discs sent to radio stations. I'm guessing there are no more than 500 copies in existence. I got mine a few years ago for $58. Prices start at $120 on Amazon.com.

Mine's definitely "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S Music Fantasy", only in print for a couple of months in 1994, I bought it for AU$15 (ex-rental) and it's no-longer available ANYWHERE in the world (other than bootlegs, of course), I have no idea what it'd be worth now.

Well...
My first record... there are 26 copies. That probably doesn't count... I have a copy of Gabriel Mann's "Tug of War," which isn't particularly rare. It's not being printed anymore, but CDBaby has them in stock, still. Though mine is signed by the Mann himself. On vinyl, I have a first-run "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" by Derek and the Dominos (American), and a copy of "Johnny Cash and His Hot and Blue Guitar" (by Johnny Cash, obviously) on Sun. I don't know that either are "rare," but uncommon. I've been trying to buy a copy of Sara Bareilles' first (and independent) album, but they sell for around $100, and I'm broke. It was produced by Gabriel Mann... what a coincidence.
