mp4 and my shuffle...

I recently ripped all my cds in aac with nero coder. I got .mp4 files that I can import in my iPhone, but my shuffle don't want any of those
I guess it's because, even if there is only audio, they are movie files ?
How can I convert those files in simple aac files (and keep all the iTunes information about those tracks) ?

Thanks for your help

The problem is that the filename of *.mp4 is used to generally describe mpeg-4 files whether they are audio or video. That is why your iPhone can read them. However, your iPhone is really seeing the *.mp4 files as video files but all video capable iPods (and the iPhone) have a feature where they can play the audio only portion of a video. So that is basically what your iPhone is doing.

Apple come up with a different naming scheme. They made the *.m4a and *.m4v file names. They still use the mpeg-4 container but *.m4a stands for mpeg-4 AAC audio and *.m4v stands for mpeg-4 video with AAC audio. So you need to rename all your files from *.mp4 to *.m4a. You can find mass filename editors online.

Just out of curiosity, what did you use rip your audio CDs? Did you use EAC, dbpoweramp, or Nero's bad CD ripper? If you used EAC then all you have to do is go in and change the filename to m4a instead of mp4. dbpoweramp automatically uses the filename of m4a so that should be an issue. Nero's CD ripper uses the filename of mp4 by default. I suggest that you go back and re-rip your audio CDs if you used Nero's CD ripper. The reason being is that Nero's CD ripper doesn't support ripping to the m4a filename and probably never will. On top of that it is not a secure ripper. You should go back and re-rip your CDs using either dbpoweramp or EAC as they are both accurate, secure, and use CD ripping technology that no other rippers use. In fact, both of those rippers are the most secure and accurate on the market. EAC is free but dbpoweramp is well worth the $24.

I ripped everything with EAC in flac, and used Nero just for its codec.
I'll try to rename the files and see what happens, thanks !

You might lose the track ID information though. Just setup EAC to make filenames of *.m4a. I know that the hydrogenaudio guide says that you should use *.mp4 but that guide is rather old and needs updating. Nero AAC can make m4a files just fine.
