They're okay. I have two of their CDs (Amputechture & De-Loused in the Comatorium) which were in heavy rotation on my iPod for a long while. Then the novelty kind of wore off. I saw them on one of the late night talk shows recently pimping their new CD, The Bedlam in Goliath. I wasn't too impressed with the song they performed. More of the same.

I have and like their first album (not their very first though) De-Loused In The Comatorium. I like how that album takes some heavy influence from Tool without being quite as heavy. That being said, I thought their second album was more or less the same and then I saw their latest music video and to me, they changed their sound a bit much. I saw them open for A Perfect Circle back in 2004 on their Our First Step Tour. I think they played 5 songs and had a 45 minute spot. The funny thing is that everyone was cheering for them the first 20 minutes but then, when they realized that they had been playing the same song for 12 minutes, everyone settled down.

I think one of the members if from El Paso, TX which I live very close to. That made it exciting but still, the set was way too long for playing such a short amount of songs. So I have lost interest in the band but think that the De-Loused album is still pretty good.

Amazing sounds from that band. Try hooking up amputechture to a high quality system.

I agree with the novelty wearing off thing.
I was very very in to them a couple years ago but I kind of grew out of them a little bit before aputechture came out.
I saw them and they played about 4 songs in a 60 or 90 minute set (I don't remember how long)

I love Frances the Mute, but Deloused is great as well. Their last 2 albums are just OK.

About the best band around these days.

Their live show is stupidly good too - given you appreciate music.

Unless you phrased that comment wrong and need a 'their' between 'appreciate' & 'music'?

Agree. I appreciate music but it is music of my tastes and The Mars Volta definitely aren't that anymore. I used to think that they were a good band until I saw them perform a 45 minute set with only playing 5 songs. Who do they think they are, Tool? Either way, I liked their De-Loused album and appreciate it but that is it. I guess I could say that anyone who actually appreciates music should go listen to Tool instead. Then again, that is just my tastes in music and don't represent any facts.

Case in point Signal To Noise.

45 minutes of music - not appreciated.

You need to have a really good appreciation of music to be able to get through their sets - it isn't easy!

It is their music though. I can get through many sets just fine. I was able to stand a 1 hour set by some dumb band called Slunt (they were all hot females but that was about it), I can get through a 2 hour Tool or Korn set, I just had a hard time getting through a 45 minute Mars Volta set. So again, you need to appreciate their music, not music in general.
