The Doo Wop Jukebox

A strange and wonderful discovery for anyone into the pop music of the 50s:

http://www.thedoowopjukebox.com/

This is one of the most eccentric sites I've seen for a long time. There are (according to the site) over 5800 songs on a single page -- which naturally takes half a day to load. Some of the music is in Real Audio format, but there are thousands of MP3s. Interspersed with the song lists -- which appear to be in no particular order -- are bits of commentary, photographs, tributes to musicians who have passed from the scene, requests for donations to support the site, and whatever else the site owner felt like throwing down that day. It's kind of a trip.

Among the oddities of the design is an interesting "feature" whereby, if you right-click on a song title to save the track to your computer, you get a crabby little message saying "This page is protected due to the STEALING of graphics and bandwidth." There is, however, no policy stated anywhere that tells you not to download the songs, virtually all of which have been out-of-print for decades, and which are not really "protected" by anything except pop-up kvetching. You just have to play the song and then "Save as..."

I comes as no surprise that the tracks aren't tagged properly -- but in the spirit of the site design, all the crucial data is jammed into the Name field, so you can fix it manually. And it's all free!

How do you do the save as thing? It doesn't seem to be working for me. And also, are you sure that it is legal to save them? If so, this really is a good find.
