okay, I'm late, but someone commented on the 'cookie monster' type bands. I agree, while I like some of the music, it's usually ruined when they start 'singing'. And I like metal, ranging anywhere from classic hard rock/metal like AC/DC and Ozzy/Sabbath, to heavy/speed metal like Suicidal Tendencies and Slayer, to whatever-metal like King Diamond. I do have a couple of growler CDs, Carcass, Death, Cannibal Corpse [and why are most of the band names about death?], but I can't take it for too long.
Anyway... One negative side affect of having a large collection, at least one gathered quickly, is that sometimes you don't have time to listen and appreciate songs/albums. I remember buying cassettes from Columbia House or Musicland, and taking the plastic off, and unfolding the liner notes to read the lyrics and 'thanks to', and sitting down and *listening* to it, as the main activity instead of as background. Music in digital format loses some of that, and if you're not careful, you can get overloaded with stuff you feel you 'need' to listen to so you don't enjoy any of it. Or you get stuck with the dilemma of choice--there's *so much* to listen to, you don't know what to choose. That one affects me. When I first started getting into digital music, I'd create one CDR at a time of collected mp3s. And I'd listen to it. Now after a multiyear hiatus from digital music, that I got my ipod, I stuck everyone on my HD and put them all on my ipod, so I've gone from famine to feast. Of course, real life has something to do with that--I'm not as young as I was, and I have other responsibilties, so just sitting somewhere and listening to an album for 30-60 minutes isn't likely to happen. |

Do you have any idea how long that would take to digitize?
I guess you could play them on the turntable at 45 rpm and slow them back down and deepen them in Audacity. It took me about an hour to go from record on turntable to aiff files in iTunes w/ art. This reminds me of the attic library in the old woman's house from Fahrenheit 451, which I so badly want for my own house.

Man, your rent must cost quite a bit.
Is that all hip-hop?

I thought my cd collection was big until I came on here, 'cause in the past 7 months or so I bought about 20 albums or so. I'm going to start collecting sometime soon.
All I have is around 500-800 songs. |

I started my digital music collection less than two years ago, and I've accumlated almost 6000 songs and 33GB of music since then. Probably about 1000 of my songs are from CDs. The others I have got from allofmp3, Soulseek, BitTorrent, and various other places online. I admit it, I pirate most of my music. I simply can't afford to buy CDs, although I do buy CDs of my favorite artists. I have listened to only a fraction of the music in my collection. Sometimes I get an album just for the hell of it. :P
