Coldplay (Guilty Pleasure ?)

Coldplay have become one of my favorite bands over time and they are a regular in my playlists but seems like with the latest album they've become a bit more yuppified would you say they've become more of a guilty pleasure now then anything ?

I remember liking yellow whenever that song came out. Clocks was okay in small doses. Overall they're a pretty lame band.

I am going to agree. Their first 2 albums, I liked the sound, and generally would tolerate it, but the problem is that they STILL sound exactly the same an album later.

Its become annoying to say the least.

I don't like X&Y.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head is one of my favorite albums.

I'm quite a big fan of Coldplay actually. I'm very proud to show it too! I think X & Y, while having a few quite bad songs, has some extremely good songs too.

Nobody should feel guilty or ashamed about the music they listen to. It's quite pathetic.....

I bought X & Y and I'm just about to completely wipe it from itunes, and then throw the cd out to my parents.. lol.

I can't STAND it. I thought I'd like it!

Oh, how I could be so wrong...

Mmm...OASIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!

I personally am not a Coldplay fan - Yellow is the only song I can stand.

All their lyrics SOUND the same and their songs use the same sound over and over again.

I like Oasis a lot better too.

Coldplay are OK, not terrible, but yes they can be repetitive. I like Fix You from X & Y.

I find them nice to relax and fall asleep to.

I loved A Rush of Blood... when it came out, but I bored of it after a while. I like a lot of the stuff from Parachutes as well. X&Y? Most of the songs sound similar, but it's tolerable for background music.

I wonder if their being so popular is the reason some people might think of them as a 'guilty' pleasure, what with it being 'uncool' in some circles to admit to liking mainstream (read: radio-played) artists.

Wow. I think X&Y is thier best album to date. in terms of being the most well rounded album. The three Singles (Speed of Sound, Fix You, Talk) are all top notch coldplay songs, and the rest are up to par. I dont get how people are upset becuase they are getting "the same sound". Yea, I want the same sound if its good. Some bands can venture off and change thier sound over time like the beatles, U2, or Green day while others keep it the same and it always works like the Rolling Stones, or Cake or Sublime.

I did like Rush of Blood and Parachutes, but never was a huge Coldplay fan. I just can't stand Chris Martin's growing infatuation with his screetching falsetto. It amazed me that "Fix You" became a single...it should make the dogs howl.

I was actually looking forward to X&Y, and very disappointed. Then the media machine kicked in and Coldplay (and Martin's scowling mug) was everywhere. It did work - sales were high for a bit - but a lot of people got sick of them.

I don't agree The Rolling Stones keep it the same.

Some of their albums are very bluesy and others rock, then you have their ballads like Angie & Wild Horses.

While Mick Jagger may have a distinct voice, you cannot say their music stays the same.

Listen to Back of my Hand (blues) then Rough Justice (rock) both from their new album A Bigger Bang for one example.

Not having a go at you, just clearing up any similarities to Coldplay's repetitive albums to that of The Rolling Stones.

Of course, you do like 'Speed Of Sound' though, don't you?
