I love nightwish... I really enjoy the whole overdone orchestra thing.

Screamo maybe?

They're decent, but I wouldn't classify them as metal by any shot.

Not really metal, but I love Garbage. Definately check out Spit by Kittie. You should have that one already though.

I'm going to list all that I know, and a lil info. None of these are "growlers" btw. I hate that crap.

Besides the obvious that have been mentioned, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Gathering...

Lunatica - Sometimes I consider them better than the three mentioned above, check out the song "Neverending Story" to be sure.

Dark Princess (Olga Romanova) - I was extremely surprised by these guys (and two girls). The debut album they put out in 2004 kicked ###. Serious ###.

Beseech - A band I hadn't found until recently. Go to their site, and listen to the freebee ""Interlane". You'll know right away why you want all their albums (I did, got them all two days ago). The male-female combo works much better than Lacuna Coils'.

Within Temptation - For the life of me I can't figure out why they weren't mentioned more in the topic starter. Check out the video "Stand My Ground" for a good heads up on how they sound.

Lullacry - Sometimes I cosider them somewhat more rock than metal, but their still pretty good.

Bloodflowerz - Another somewhat rockish band with heavy Gothic influence.

Darkwell A lot like Nightwish, without the power influence, and more Doom.

Epica - Another Nightwish-y band vocals wise.

Fading Colours - Maybe they dont fit on this list, but some reason I think their awesome.

Flowing Tears - Not much to say, good band.

Forever Slave - For those who like REALLY, REALLY soft vocals with some power/doom like metal sounds.

Guano Apes - More rock, and the vocals are more "rocker", but they have some extremely catchy songs.

Lana Lane - Another good band.

Leaves Eyes - Another Nightwish-y band. Male and female.

The Lust - Can't say much, good though.

Madder Mortem - Somewhat of a doom band. Female singer does her thing, while male singer gets "low" a lot.

Midnattsol - I consider this "Folk Metal". Great female vocals....with some folk like guitars. Catchy stuff.

Hagalaze Rundance / Nebelhexe - Same band that changed their name. More folk than anything really, but they do have some metal influence.

Power Symphony - Decent band, simply. Sometimes they can get a little too foriegn for my taste.

Rain Fell Within - Very Operatic.

Ram-Zet - This was the band "elistists" liked (those who would not admit to liking any other band with oh no, girls) It has good female vocals, but male death vocals. The combination is a little annoying to me, but you may like it.

Sengir - The singer of this band can sound a lot like Scabbia at times. But for the most part, she sounds different, and importantly, great.

Seventh Seal -Traditional is the word I would use to descibe how the snger sings and how the band plays. They would have really fit into the late 80's.

Shadow Keep - Good band. Nice Power influence.

Shadow Play - More gothic, recent singer change worked for the best, imo.

Shellyz Raven - I don't know how the descibe this band. They are catchy, vocals are (As I would put) "sweet". Their lyrical themes are a little to wonder. I have heard them called "sex metal" from others. Try them out, their pretty cool.

Silent Cry - Somewhat Doomish, male/female works pretty good.

Silentium - Another Doomish band. Though I like the vocals more than the above band.

Sister Sin - Easy word to descibe this band - badass. Vocals are cool, another band who would have fit in well during the 80's.

Elfonia / Stream of Passion - Somewhat progressive Metal, and occoasionally the awesome singer (One of my favorites) sings in latin, but for the most part, great band. Check out the video "Out in the Real World". God-like guitar player Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon plays with them.

Ayreon - This band is a godsend. Their latest album featured over 10 awesome vocalsists (3 were women, one of which was from Elfonia/SoP). Get the album "The Human Equation", 20 tracks of greatness.

Thalion - Great power metal band.

Theatre of Tragedy - A lot like Ram-Zet.

Tristania - Good band with some really soft vocals.

Visions of Atlantis - This is the rare occasion where the male vocals sound better than the female vocals. She sounds just as good as all the other bands listed, but they guys voice is just awesome. Listen to the track "Lost" to see what I mean.

Where Angels Fall - Another band with very soft vocals.

The Season - Good band, simply put.

I am a Lacuna Coil and Otep fan.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Crisis. Karyn Crisis has a great growl.

I was skimming through Itunes yesterday and realized I missed a few that I have.

Aina - If there is a step beyond Nightwish in the "operatic" catagory, this is it.

Catafalque - Another band like Ram-Zet, with good female vocals, and harsh male vocals.

Chaoswave - Band simliar to early Lacuna Coil.

Collide - Sort of techno-ish/metal, but vocals are good.

Curve - Industrial Metal. Think if Ministry had a girl singer ---- who can sing.

Draconian - Awesome gothic/doom band. Vocals are great.

Elis - Great gothic metal band. Not sure how I forgot them in my first post.

Felony - For the most part only a guy sings, but there is a female singer who sometimes joins him. Either way, good band.

For Selena and Sin - I only have a few songs from them, but they seem pretty good.

Galadriel - This band has one of the softest singers around. Sometimes she sings so soft it's almost as it she's blending the words together.

Gothica - More darkwave/ambience than metal, but it has some metal influence. Good singer helps, too.

Hyubris they sing foreign for the most part, but do have some english songs. This singer usually sings very high - all the time. She almost sounds like the tracks been sped up on a tape player.

Liv Kristine Singer from "Leaves Eyes", her solo project was much less metal, and more pop, but her vocals remained intact, if not better.

Milla Jovovich I feel weird recommending this, it isn't metal by any means, but seems to be a hit among metalheads for some reason. Who knew she could sing? The only model/actress who successfully put out a good album. It's folk-ish, and sung mostly in Ukranian by the way.

Pryzmath - Not to be confused with "Pyramaze", this band is fairly new and still very much underground for the most part. Vocals are good. Band could use some polishing.

Shroud of Tears - Another Ram-Zet like band. Female vocals, harsh male vocals.

Magica - I'm not really into them, the singer is decent, so is the music itself. They're not very catchy, which is why I don't like them much. Maybe dull is the word I'm looking for.

Devonian - They formed in 2000.....and only have 5 songs, LOL. Good band, from what they have released.

Dying Passion - Doom/Gothic band.

Elevare - Fairly new band, they only released a 3 track demo back in 2004. Next ablum (whenever they get to it) should be good.

Synoptia - This band released three seperate demos between 1998-2000, and then split up. They were good, if you can find anything from them.

Sunterra - Another good band, with a nice male/female mix.

The Sins of Thy Beloved - More Ram-Zet parallels. Same vocals as above.

In the last month or so I have have found my way to about 20 more bands with female leads.....but out of them the one that stood out most was "Ebony Ark"

And not to mention the singer is pretty good to look at.
