getting itunes to find music in windows

i am currently unable to get itunes to recognize any of the songs on my hd. i tried the consolodation in the itunes menu and it did nothing. in windows media player you click to a find media on my pc tab. is there any way to make the itunes recognize music on a pc? or do i have to burn all the songs on to cd then reinsert them into itunes? so far i can take a cd and put it in itunes but not from pc. i am running windows xp home. thanks

What kind of music files are they? If they WMA they won't be recognized by iTunes.

Have you tried the add to library command from the file menu? You select this and then navigate to a music folder and click on choose and they should add. Of course this is only if they are recognized files... If the reason things are not being is recognized is because they are WMA, you will have to rerip these songs.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I'll have to defer to a windows user. I've only ever used iTunes and AAC.

Search the internet for different programs that may help you or wait for some suggestions here.

Of course most people will say to rerip, because you are going to lose quality in reencoding songs from WMA to MP3.

Cheers,
Stu

Rerip the CDs. Transcoding files is not recommended.

Or just use WMP/winamp/foobar/etc.
