I prefer in-ear phones. Most earbuds (Apple's especially) are downright painful to my ears. Maybe I have small ears or something.

In ears all the way. In ear and earbuds are really not even comparible. They're totally different.
Buds generally sound pretty crumby. The Sennheiser MX500's are the only ones I've tried that are decent. Anybody have the Jabra earjams yet? I wonder if technically the apple buds become in ears with the earjams attached.... Hmmmmm pondering.....

Without a doubt the In-Ear's win with a T.K.O.!!
1) Stock Earbud's are underpowerd (or is it the EU iPod?!?!) Even after iMod / GoPod the Stock Earbuds don't match the Volume punch of even my chapest Earbud's. 2) The Stock Earbud's hurt my Ear's (Like so many others have already stated!). They (Stock Earbud's), also have Zero external noise blocking. If your unfortunate to be down on Street level while an Amblance, Cop Car or Firetruck goes by prepare to scream about not hearing your 'Pod... The In-Ears win becouse. 1) They're a bit louder then the Stock Earbud's 2) They fit better: Now hears where some People may disagree the trick here is to cram those s??ckers deep into your Ears! Get it In-Ears. When proper fit is achived we come to.... 3) Better Bass range. Ok I like lots of Bass and my faveriote Band Rush is pretty Bass hevay. So it may be a good thing. But, I sure there are others out there that would say that the Bass is a bit 'Muddy' fact is I never had to switch the Bass-Boost on the iPod after I got these Phones they do a splended job covering bass as is... 4) Did I cover the Noise Blocking issue? Now I'm not even goning to try and compaire a $40.00(USD) Headset with a $149.00+(USD) Shure e3, Etymotic 6i. Undoubtedly you get what your willing to pay for. That said The Apple In-Ear's do a fantastic job of blocking unwanted sounds. (i.e. Amblances, Cop Cars & Firetrucks and the preverbale New Mother with crying Child!!!). Thuss alowing you the user to enjoy your Music. Like I said the In-Ear's win by T.K.O!!!
