do you think apple will include a mic in the ipod touch 3g?

I was just thinking, if the ipod shuffle 3g has the apple earbuds with a remote & mic, will the rest of the ipods follow suite? It must be cheaper for apple to just provide the same earbuds for every ipod and it'll definately be a nice perk for apps like audioboo, skype, shazaam etc.

I hope so. I travel about 50% of the time for work so a Touch with video and mic will allow me to Skype and stay connected with the family.

I don't think it'll include a mic like the iPhone, but I do think they'll include the earbuds with the in-line mic.

If they include a camera - which is all but confirmed - and a mic then there is even less distinction from the iPhone. I think they want to still have a definite distinction between the two.

What good is the video capability when there is no sound?

I assume that by video capability you mean recording video rather than just viewing videos. Yes, if they include a video camera in the new touch it will for sure have a mic. However, several sources are saying that it is simply a still camera and not capable of recording video. Nothing is for sure until Apple makes the announcement. Only a couple weeks to wait and find out.

If they did add a mic to the Touch, I think they will market mainly towards Voice Controls rather than VOIP apps. Even if they don't add a market, the Touch will come with earphones with the mic as they are the only Apple earphones available. The old mic-less eaphones are no longer available.

I think that the mic will be included if only in the earbuds. As it stands right now, I think that Apple is limiting VOIP apps. What functionality is available will be anyone's guess. There is really very little physical difference between a still and video camera imager. most has to do with the other hardware implemented. There is a good possibility that the Touch will share the same camera module as the iPhone to help keep the costs lower.

I gotta say, adding a camera without the ability to record video WITH sound would be pointless. Might as well totally omit it. I mean, without that, what's the point in a 3rd generation? Besides, a mic means video, it means possibly skype, it means being able to tell your ipod touch what songs/artist you want to listen to as well, such as with the iphone.

For them to purposely give the Iphone 3Gs huge improvements and give the Ipod touch little scraps to keep them distinctly seperate, well that's just idiotic. The fact that the iphone is a PHONE that doesn't need Wi-Fi to use the majority of it's most useful features is a big enough chasm.
