New study: Teens who are asked to turn down their iPods actually turn them up

CU study: Some teens turn up iPods when asked to turn volume down

BOULDER, Colo. — A small but substantial percentage of teens are putting themselves at risk of hearing loss by increasing the volume of their iPods when they are confronted with pressures to turn the noise down, according to a recent study at the University of Colorado.

The pilot study asked 29 teens in the Denver metro area a series of questions about how they used their players, as well as their susceptibility to hearing loss and if they believed a decrease in volume meant a decrease in music quality.

Certainly not a suprise for anyone who has lived with teenagers .

Wonder how I could get paid to produce this kind of "research"...

Probably so they don't have to keep hearing people ask them to turn down their iPods.

tell them, if they carry on like that, to look after their LOUD ipods because they may soon be their last. tell them not to come crying to you when ALL personal stereos have capped volumes, like in the EU.

Im glad we dont have the eu volume cap. But i think we'll have it in less than 4 years. I only blast my music when the background noises are too loud to let anyone here my music, like when im on the bus.
