Dead ipod touch 2G

My brother gave me his old ipod touch 2nd generation. He said it's "bricked" and that a guy an big electronics store told him he needed a new one. The touch has no water damage and suffered no severe death. It simply stopped working one day. It won't turn on at all. When plugged into the computer, Windows will not even recognize it was plugged in (no bloop-bloop sound), nor will iTunes recognize it. Plugging it into a wall charged provided no further success. I currently have it taken apart...

With the battery still soldered to the main board, I initially only measured with a multimeter 0.025volts across the far right and left contacts. I plugged it into the wall charger and still measured 0.026volts. It's been sitting for about 10 minutes (or however long it took me to register here at the iLounge ) and now measuring across the two contacts yields 2.58volts.

Is the battery trashed and in need of replacement? Can you advise on what could be the problem with the itouch?

Thanks!

Cannot make the initial connection to iTunes to register

Kyle, my brand new, out-of-the-box 32 Gb iTouch will not initialize/sync with iTunes. I downloaded iTunes and installed it (twice) to no avail. I have restarted the computer several times and disabled the firewall and checked the LAN settings. When I connect the device to any of multiple USB ports the computer recognizes the device but all I get is a message indicating that "We could not complete your iTunes Store request (-9812). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Try again later." I have restarted the computer and the iTouch and done the 2-key reset thing on the device. It is also fully charged. How can I get this thing to wake up? Thanks in advance.

Need Your Help

irestore,

I have an ipod video 5the gen 30gb. I replaced the front and back plates. When I snapped everything back on, it would not power up. So I opened it again and I noticed that the battery connecter (5 pins) got taken off (it's the one with the brown and white end). How do I put it back? In the process of fudging around I also managed to pop out the black clips for the lcd connector and the earphone connector on the motherboard. Can I put them back?

i plugged my ipod, it is an 8GB nano.. i think 3rd gen, into the dock of my Bluray player, to see if i could watch movies from my ipod on my big screen...

it connected just fine then it said i need to switch from hdmi to composite to display the video... while trying to find out how to do that on my remote, my bluray said ipod disconnected...

i picked up my ipod and pressed a button... i could hear the sound it makes when you press a button (sounds like a click)

i tried to reboot it by sliding the hold button back and forth, then pressing and holding menu and play buttons til i see the apple emblem... The click sound dissapeared and now it does nothing..

i pluged it back into laptop via usb... and again nothing...

anyone have any ideas on what is wrong?

PLEASE HELP

6th Generation hard drive compatibility question

My iPod 6th Gen 160 gb recently stopped working. Went to sleep with it on my head. Woke up it was on the floor and dead. It fell less than 2 feet and landed on carpet, so i cant believe that the fall was to blame. It had a black screen and nothing would revive it. I assumed that it was the hard drive.

I've replaced a few 5th gen hard drives successfully so i figured that i could handle it. I bought a hard drive on ebay, but it's a Toshiba while the original one was a Samsung. Does that matter? Are both compatible? I ask because when i put the new hard drive in i still get nothing. I put a new battery in it too. Did i misdiagnose the problem? Logic Board?

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Red face ipod Touch Battery replacement issue

Hello,

I have replaced the battery on several iPod touches, both 2nd and 3rd generations, however I am encountering the same problem. Once the battery is replaced I check the voltage with a digital meter and the voltage across both the battery terminals and taken at the circuit board terminals is about 230 mv. But when i desolder the battery and test it by itself it is close to 3.7 V (full). I also notice that the chips and/or the lower left hand corner of the logic board gets very hot when the unit is plugged up to a power source. I'm thinking these have to be the same issue bc it has happened with several ipods touches, a few of which worked at one time when I initially soldered the battery in. Note that some were water damaged, but others were not and have the same issues.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hey, I'm having a very frustrating issue that I hope you can help me with. Ok.. so I took out my old cracked digitizer, bought a second gen replacement w/ frame. Now, I have the ribbon in place but I am getting no responses from the screen, but the home button is working. I also have my iPod powered on, I am wondering if that may be a problem. If I let it power its self off and then restart it will it recognize the digitizer? Is there something I am overlooking? Please respond if you have any info that may help, I would really appreciate that. Thanks

Hello, I know u arent replying to me. But I've had the exact same issue. This is what I've found.

1. Try using another digitizer.

2. Using a voltmeter (place it in continuity mode) and test the 4 corners of the jack that u connect the digitizer too. U want to measure across the two corners, veritcally. If you get a "LO" symbol across any if the terminals the jack is dead. U wil need to buy a new logic board ribbon assembly.

Hope it helps.

Hey Kyle,

I have a problem that I haven't found on any FAQ.

My 80gb iPod Classic has stopped syncing right. It boots up right, and my Windows 7 recognizes it (and always has), but when I synch, it freezes at about 100-200 songs in, and only about 10-20 end up making it onto the iPod HD. My question is, what do I have to replace? I assume that the problem is the hard drive or the logic board, which are the two most expensive parts to replace. I don't want to buy one and find out that it's the other.

Ipod touch 4 gen. update problems

I tried to update my Ipod touch 4 Gen. it downloaded all the way through the update and at the end came up with an error message that said "Error: Cannot update Ipod software". Now my Ipod has a screen with the usb cord and itunes symbol and wont connect to itunes. I've tried to restart my computer and run diagnostics through itunes and tried to restore ipod through ms config. When the ipod was being restored i got the error message 1604. Can you help me please?

I have a challenging problem for you.

This is a weird one. I have a ipod classic 160gig and it dropped about 4 feet into a drainage pipe, outside. I could not get it out until the next day by putting a hard drive magnet on a stick and pulling it up slowly.

It just flashes the apple logo when plugged in. It is not seen by itunes or the computer. But when I plug it into the iphone wall charger and rebooted it, I got it to come on. When on the charger I put it in disk mode and that did nothing as it just shuts off and I can not get it to itunes.

The battery charges fine. All my music was there and I can even play them or watch a movie with no problem. But when I unplugged it from thr iphone charger, it just shuts off and is not seen by the computer or itunes.

What do you think has happened and do you think I can fix this? This is really driving me nuts because I know it works.

Any help would be, well, helpful. Thanks.

Closed?

I see that iRestore has not posted a response in a couple of years. March of 2009 to be exact. I guess this thread should be closed.
