iPod Chat For iPod Touch (Concept)

Wireless free instant messaging and doodling application exclusively for iPod Touches, some type of radius, 100 feet or so. Essentially picto chat DS on the iPod Touch. It'd be pretty cool, I mean, just think how many iPods are in a 100 feet radius at certain points of time.

Doesn't something like this exist? I would have to imagine that the AIM application works on the Touch if two Touches are one the same WIFI network.

No, maybe I didn't explain it right, It's not wifi, it's wireless, so it's built in. just like Nintendo DS's can communicate with each other without the internet, they just have to be within a 50 foot radius.

That's like people who text sitting on a bench together
I could see people drawing back and forth, but it takes some skill to draw on a touch screen with your fingers, and finding someone nearby with such interest could be rare
Probably be more interesting for such an application where people can enter chat rooms and doodle, but that fad has already dropped out I believe
I don't see iPods, or iPhones, for this matter to be able to connect without an external connection.
I remember the chat program on the DS, it was fun for the first moment you got it to work, then it flatlined

Not really, it's pretty cool (REALLY COOL WHEN YOUR IN CLASSROOMS), it would be like a 100 foot radius for IMing and doodling.

Oh, but it so much fun when you are on the bus with all your friends for a couple hours... haha. It has some uses, but not too many. Depends on the situation, really.

Ermm... why not just talk to the person you want to in the same class? If different classes, just use the Wi-Fi (you do have Wi-Fi in school right?) for IM. Though here Bluetooth messaging is more common in classrooms.

wtf people still ride buses?

No, seriously again I could see such an application, there are alot of very random ones out there, but it would still have to be off Wi-Fi or data, I doubt Apple would allow two to make connections
Plus the wi-fi (Or 3g, w/e) could allow more then just one, just make your own channel and people have to know the name or something, or do it by map positioning, they do alot of tracking already, say "search .5 mile" or something

WiFi is wireless and it can be used on devices like the DS and the Touch to do localized networking without the Internet being involved.

In fact, that's EXACTLY what the DS does. It uses the 802.11 protocol to create a local network without using the Internet.

You need to get your facts right before posting stuff like that, XVI.

It's not an extended wifi network (which was implied) you have to pay for. Plenty of classrooms (that aren't in college) have no wifi. And here comes the attitude already from Surf Monkey, criticism from something that not only was an honest mistake but was implied. I don't NEED to do anything you tell me to do.

Your above statement shows that you don't really know what Wi-Fi is. That was my point. Know your facts, XVI. Otherwise you look bad.

Who cares, he's thought of a concept that would be cool to have. Why would you enter this thread and just start ripping him? None of your posts have even been constructive yet.

I think it would be a nice feature that could easily be added and could also open a new genre of multiplayer touch games/apps.

It really could be easily added, and it could open up multiplayer.

Oh, so you're the arbiter of what's productive and what's not now? Good to know.

Wireless could be either WiFi or Bluetooth. The iPod touch already has Wifi, and I think it should also have Bluetooth, and I mean full blown Bluetooth. The iPhone only has Bluetooth for headsets but the iPhone and iPod Touch really need Bluetooth for everything
