Do you have expensive sunglasses?

Do you have expensive sunglasses? What is your take on paying that much compared to what you could spend at a cheaper sunglass stand like UV3? Do you think there is much difference between cheap and expensive?

I wear Oakley oil rigs and love them. They look good and feel good and they cost me 115$. My rationalizing is I use sunglasses a lot, so they are like an investment.

I say u have the "justify my purchase" syndrome.

If it makes you FEEL GOOD, that maybe a good enuff reason to get them.

$115? Ouch! But am cheap what can I say.

I too subscribe to the rationale, "use at lot, buy good/durable stuff." EXCEPT items like sunglasses! Why? 'coz I KNOW I am going to lose them!

For the record, my favorite sunglasses are gas station-mart type, and the ones I like are the medium-soft plastic type. No hard plastic, no metal.

Once I had to buy a pair of <ouch> $50 Ray-Band, coz in the middle of U.S. Open (tennis) I forgot to bring my own glasses! and dammit I was going to enjoy the match without squinting. 3 years later one of the lens felt out. Goes to show, expensive doesn't......

I used to have a nice pair of Ray-Bans and was at a wedding and I stuck them in my pocket. When I pulled them out of my pocket, they got caught on the pocket and one of the pieces snapped off.

Since then I have purchased a pair of Oakleys and I have now had them for several years. I have very sensitive eyes and have to have a good pair of sunglasses. My family went to Disneyland a couple years ago and at the the risk of losing or breaking my Oakelys while I was there I purchased a cheap pair and couldn't stand using them. We went to Disneyland again this past January and I just got a nice hard case for them so I could wear them around the park. If I ever lose them or break them, I will just have to spend the $100+ to purchase a new pair.

I have been wearing Maui Jims for years. They range from $200-$300, but I recently discovered you can get unbelievable deals at Cost Co. on certain models. For me it's worth it because I value my eyes, I don't like bright lights, I use it every second I am outside in the sun, and I mean literally every second. I don't go outside without sunglasses. I also love the polarization.

I just ordered my second pair of Oakleys! They're the frogskins... if you don't know much about them they came out in the 80's I believe and in 2007 the company pulled them back from the dead. Only 3000 pairs are made of each color, and i finally was lucky enough to find oakley.com had some left! They're a xmas present from grandpa and I must say the ruby iridium lenses are very classy http://oakley.com/pd/4883/22147 They're the 3rd pair from the left.

I have had expensive sunglasses in the past, but fashion moves on faster than the hefty pricetag will allow me to replace good sunglasses.

I now stick to $NZ30 jobs from the gas station...provided they are polarised and comfortable and don't look stoooopid, I am happy.

I only buy Revo sunglasses. Usually $300~$400 CDN a pop. I normally buy two new pairs once every 2 years. You know...to stay in style. I like to keep a pair for driving and for everyday use.

Ive never owned a pair of expensive sunglasses, but I admit Ive wanted to get some Oakleys for a while. I used to check them out wherever they sold them and dream about having the dough to buy them, but it never really happened. Ive owned my share of cheap gas-station sunglasses in the past tho, but I dont wear anything nowadays.

I need prescription glasses.. so I just bought Transitions lenses instead so I don't have to switch pairs. So technically, my "sunglasses" cost about $450. But they're also my prescription glasses so it's covered by canadian medicare =)

About usd$370(?).

One of these days, somebody is gonna explain to me why prescriptions are so expensive still. Gosh, by now one would think we have enuff volume, expertise and technology that surely these things come down in price by now. Have a feeling we've being gouged.

I know, your eyes are important, $ is no object. Marketing loves u.

No but I have glasses so sunglasses don't work well. My mom bought an expensive pair ($250ish) a couple years ago and loved them.

I have a pair of Oakley Gascan S sunnies, which are my favourite glasses that I've owned. They are pretty much perfect.

Then I have an Oakley M Frame (Sweep) for baseball on the weekend and bike riding.

A large reason I own and like expensive glasses is that I actually look after them, and look after them well. My glasses will last at least 5 years.
