My first player was an iRiver IFP-180T. It had 128MB of storage, an FM Tuner and voice recording. It had about a 20 hour battery life on a single AA.

my first one was an RCA lyra 20gb that died shortly after purchase. RCA was cool and gave me a 40gb to replace it. that one died in less than a year, and they gave me a full refund. Not a good player, but a great response from RCA. then i got a tohsiba gigabeat F40 40gb. it was awesome, and then i found the Gigabeat S series which plays video and has an FM tuner, so i sold the f40 and bought the S30 30gb. about two weeks ago i downloaded the new itunes to check it out and was hooked. i bought a 30gb Video, and sold the other Gigabeat. now its ipod all the way. ha ha

So true, the integration with iTunes is definitely keeping me from even considering another brand of player.

It was a 3rd gen 15gb iPod. It was the coolest thing in the world to me then, despite the fact that I only had like 400 songs and it could hold 5 times that...:P

My first was a Creative Nomad IIc with a whopping 64mb of storage and a slot for up to 128mb on a SmartMedia card (which I did). I still have it, and I still use it for WMA's which I don't have the original recordings and don't want to transcode.

The very first MP3 player I bought was for my wife in 1999. It was a 32M Lyra that I gave to her as a gift.

My first music player would have been the iPod back in 2001, but it wouldn't work with Windows, so I waited. I'm a patient person. I finally got my first MP3 player in 2005 -- a 2nd Gen iPod Mini. Of course, that only lasted 1 month before I lost it. My next (and current) player is the fifth gen 60G Black iPod which I purchased during the summer of last year.

My first MP3 player was a Panasonic SVMP20V with 128MB memory that I bought in 2002. I sold it to an aunt for $75 dollars 4 years ago to buy an iPod Mini. It was ancient though...it held roughly 35 songs and ran on 1 AAA battery for 8 hours. I loved that thing though, partly because I could hold the equivalent of 2 CD's in my pocket. It cost about $180 USD, the same amount of money as a 4GB Nano nowadays.

I have that one too, but I don't really use it any more.

I also had a Rio PMP300, but the casing was clear, teal-colored and ugly. Pretty sure it had 64MB of internal memory... I think the black ones had 32MB.

In all honesty, I didn't particularly care about a portable music player until I discovered iTunes (1.x) on the Mac at school... I was actually willing to pay for iTunes if was available on Windows (which it wasn't at the time, summer 2003)... then I discovered that fall that it was available.

It wasn't until 2004, when I got my own computer, that I downloaded it finally, and bought my iPod the following spring.

iPod 4G 20GB | iPod 5G 30GB | iPod nano 1G 1GB | iPod touch 16GB

Rio some hundred. The greatest...I listened to the same 8 songs over and over again. Then Creative IIG or something...then the grandest: iPod.
