Talking Very happy refurb customer!

Back about a week ago I decided to replace my 2GB iPod nano 1G with a 30GB iPod Photo in the refurbished section of Apple's website. All I can say is that I am one happy customer! For $149 I got an almost-new-looking iPod Photo.

But here's where it gets good. You'd think Apple would send me an old AC adapter and old earphones, right? Think again! I got both a new style AC adapter and the new Apple earphones! This is sort of confusing seeing as my sister got a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle and it came with the old style earphones, but my refurbished iPod Photo comes with the new style earphones. The AC adapter was a nice touch too, seeing as I can now sell my Sonnet AC adapter to my sister for her new iPod Shuffle.

The iPod is in great condition with only a few very tiny scratches on it which are only noticeable when looking closely for them. After minutes of taking my iPod out of the packaging I decided I'd try the old plastic wrap idea I've heard some people talk about. So while I'm waiting for my InvisibleSHIELD to arrive, I won't have to worry about my iPod getting all scratched up. Although I think I'm going to try reapplying the plastic wrap as I didn't do a good job the first time.

All in all, I'd definitely buy another Apple refurbished product in the future. If you can save up to 60% off the price of a new product by buying a refurbished one which is in like new condition, why not?

EDIT: I did have a problem with the new Apple earphones in which the left earphone put out a much softer sound, which made it sound like my music was coming out of only the right earphone. But that was quickly fixed after I sorta whacked the left earphone against a hard surface.

Wow! Talk about weird! My dad's refurbished 60GB iPod 5G just came today and he got the old style Apple earphones! I'd think it would be the other way around. He should have gotten the new earphones, while I should have gotten the old ones. Oh well, he has expensive in-ear earphones anyway.

I bought my daughter a refurbished MacBook, and it also came with new accessories. Not only that, but the hard drive and the RAM were both upgraded for no extra charge.

Is there a way to tell if you've got a refurbished product from Apple? How they are packaged or anything?

I just got a replacement 60-gig iPod video after my hard drive crashed. The one they sent looks impecable (and I'm super-pickey about my stuff). Had an adhesive screen protector over the face and was wrapped in the usual "Don't steal music" celophane wrap. Not a scratch on it anywhere, front or back. Cane with a small decal with the serial number and model/build info printed on it (with coded scan bars just like the factory box).

The only hint that it had even been handled was some virtually impercevable marks in the headphone jack and in the connecter port. They are so faint however, I think they might have just come from a single insertion into each (possibly during QC going out the Apple door and all...). Hard to tell.

If it's refurbished, put me on the HIGHLY impressed list.

The refurbs come in just a regular cardboard box with foam inside. No fancy retail boxes or anything. My iPod also came with one of those "Don't steal music" things on the front. The box mine came in said "Apple Reconditioned Product", but that might not be the case with yours since you didn't buy it as a reconditioned product. I'm not really sure how you can certainly tell. But I'm pretty sure Apple replaces iPods with reconditioned ones.

I've heard great things about refurbished products off Apple's website. Maybe I'll do the same thing for my next iPod or computer.

I've had problems with mine, right after christmas I purchased a refurbished 20gb ipod with colour display ($140 Canadian)...after a week the scroll wheel stopped working, so I called apple and they said send it in. A week later (approximately, including shipping back and forth) I got another refurbished unit (looked like it was new), plugged it in, I got the sad ipod face, so called apple again, they are going to replace it again...we'll see how this one turns out...

again, Apple has been good as servicing these, just it is kind of a hassle not having my ipod for like 2 weeks...

That's the opposite from my last post. I've heard terrible things about HP's service.
